both are ideally cut SI1, G color but the smaller (1.5 ct) is hearts and arrows with excellent polish and symmetry. The larger 1.74 is not hearts and arrows. Both sparkly like crazy indoors, outdoors etc.. but the facets are a smidge off on the big one. It has very good polish and symmetry.  The small one is like 11533 and larger like 12444 or thereabouts (I'm recalling what I saw-overall the difference is around 1,000.

What would you people pick and why?

We also could do an I 1.5 vg, vg but I felt like that one was a little yellow. Its only 9500.

Do people tend to be bothered more over time by not seeing the hearts and arrows or by size or by yellow?

You'll probably get a lot more responses by listing all the details of each stone.  They both sound nice though.  Remember, the H&A effect can only be seen with a special viewer.  So I doubt that will be an issue down the road.  The "yellow" that you mentioned will always be there.  So I would think that most customers would be more concerned with that aspect.  Your decision may ultimately come down to size....

Well... the H&A label is just good to indicate top light return (that's what it was invented for, as far as I know).  Of curse many diamonds have great light return and no harts and arrows. As long as brilliance is there, whether you want the pattern to show or not is really a matter of choice.

Have you seen these side by side ?

The refference chart on ideal-scope.com (LINK) shows pretty well what top light return without H&A looks under IS scrutiny. If the larger diamond stands out that well, it would definitely be my winner.  But... this is entirely your choice, of course.

Actually, symmetry can get way further from the H&A pattern while light return stays tops.  Jonathan posts a few examples among his non H&A diamonds.

If you can compare the two stones in person, the H&A pattern (where it is) dissapears as soon as the stone is tilted a bit. Brilliance should be as strong on both stones.
