Last week when i was parking up, i passed and waved to the chap whoes making my ring, as he was standing outside his shop supervising some workmen replace the rollershutter to his shop. Just popped in again today... and workmen where still there rebuilding the front window. Some $%&$*&$*%(%*$&$%($()$_%(%*%($)$)%*$*$%($%)$)%$(%$*%($)%$)%($%($%($%($)%)%$(*%*$%$% Had tried to ramraided his shop the night before I saw him last week. ![]() Thankfully they didnt get away with anything of value. And his safe was untouched (which has my diamond inside it) And the ring should be ready within the next week or so. *fingers crossed* ![]()

That's somewhat unnerving. Glad the stone is still there in the safe, and I can't wait to see the pics...

Aye. Didnt realise anything was wrong when i saw him the other day... as the broken display window already had a screen infront of it... and the old security shutter was in the skip... Like i said thankfully they didnt get away with anything valuable - as anything like that it put away at night - but its the umm 'annoyance' of the thing. I know i was worried when i was heard, but thought he would have got in touch if there had been a problem with the safe having been compromised. - So thought it best to let him get himself sorted before popping in. I suppose silver lining... hes got a better shutter now and ungrading his security too. _____________________ |

That i dont know... still thinking... keep coming up with ideas! lol Im in about 3 minds... 1) yep keep with the coaster idea - we'll be going back to blackpool next month - camping for the weekend... so could do it at somepoint that weekend, either on the coaster or at somepoint in the weekend depending on how busy the park is. or 2) we're going on holiday for a week on a Narrowboat week after Easter with her parents... so could do it then... (for anyone who doesnt know about narrowboats... look up harrison fords last holiday with clarisra flockhard... they went along the Llangollan Canal in wales (we're going through Yorkshire/Lancashire) _____________________ |

OK, Lord Summerisle, what is a "smeghead"? A less than flattering term I assume? Also, ramraid? Does that mean "break and enter" or "smash and grab"? (Amazing the things one learns on PS! ) Also, I am very glad nothing of great value was taken though it must be very unsettling to you given that your diamond is in his safe!

Smeghead... term of abuse... made up by the writers Rob Grant and Doug Naylor for hte TV SitCom - Red Dwarf. Basically they needed a word that sounded like a swear word but could be said on its pre 9pm slot. hence they thought the Italian maker of fridges and stoves 'Smeg' fitted the bill nicely. As for Ramraid - means some nasty oik used a car or a van to smash through the security screen and front window of the shop. A similar thing was attempted using a digger at the Millenium Dome when it was exhibiting a rather expensive diamond (tho in that case the group attempting the robbery had be infiltrated by the police and they surrounded the gang as soon as they attempted to get in (by driving the digger straight at a wall) _____________________ |

I couldn't pass by this thread with a title like that! I didn't expect to see Red Dwarf terminology used here. Those books are hilarious and I always catch the TV shows when I can.Sorry to hear about your jeweller and very chuffed to hear that your ring is safe. It sounds like you'll have quite the unforgettable proposal, regardless of which option you'll choose.

Well... As you know from the other topic... was in today seeing the ring before its final polishing. Well as for the rest of the shop... its been what 3..4 weeks since the break in. Hes had a new shop window put in, and security bar in front - and finally getting back to normal. The thing is.. they got away with buttons... barely nowt worth anything... couple of hundred quid of stuff if that... but caused 1000s of £s worth of damage to the stock... bend, flatterned, broken in the break in... not to mention the cost of replacement of the front wall... and the repair needed to the side wall. He would have far rather they had done a robbery when he was there and he could have given them £2k... would have been far easier
