I have read what seems like a lot about pave band settings here on PS. People often mention how they are not as safe as prong set bands. Has anyone ever lost a a stone from their pave band? If so how did you lose it? Was it hard to replace and reinsert? Is there anything else to consider that I may have forgotten or ignored? Thanks.

There are two things I remember about pave settings. The first is that if you do loose a stone it is relatively inexpensive to have it replaced. Secondly there has been some discussion about the pave bands rubbing against each other, thus damaging the stones. Meaning that if your setting is pave and your wedding band is pave, they can damage eachother. Hopefully someone can post a link to that thread.

I have read that thread but I didnt think it suited my needs to be honest. If I got a pave band it wound be one side the three sides just seems like abit much considering myself and bf are in college. I am really just intreasted in if the pave worries are jsut that or if they are based on peoples acutal experiences. If it is common or more of a it will happen once in 25 years issue. I figured this was the best place to ask since a number of people here have pave rings. I am only a wee bit jealous!

I have a pave ering that I just got about a month ago. I had to have it resized and was warned that one of the stones might pop out afterwards. Sure enough, two days later, I looked down and there was a hole in the band...one of the pave diamonds fell out. I informed the maker of the ring and he replaced it for free. It was really no big deal...he was even able to do it while I waited. I had my ring custom made, but I did a lot of research about designer pave rings before I got my ring and most of them have a free replacement policy. Even if they don't, like Kaleigh said, they are pretty inexpensive to replace since they are so tiny. I've been told that you should get a pave band checked about every 6 months to ensure that the diamonds are still secure and to expect to lose one every few years.

One every few years! Wow! That seems like a bummer. I will definately ask the jewler about that and about the cost typically of replacing a diamond and the time it would take. Thanks PSU!
