My Boulder Opal Pendant

cflutist Ideal Rock Total Posts: 1,370 Last Post: 7/20/2006 Member Since: 7/12/2004	This is my boulder opal pendant. Notice how the play of color changes based on the viewing angle. Boulder opal is opal occurring in ironstone matrix; the opal is cut on top with the ironstone matrix as backing that adds strength and a dark background. It is NOT a doublet or triplet which is an assembled stone where the layers are cemented together.

I'd see a good shot showing all the fire and try to get it with the camera, but any movement at all, and you'd end up with something else.
