To all, I have read somuch about diamonds in the past 3 months that I feel I know to much, so much so that im almost afraid to buy one because I find something that bothers me in every diamond. The fact is though with the rate diamonds are increasing i need to buy 1 soon lol. I was originally looking for a 2 ct G SI1-SI2 princess cut but it has been so difficult finding something I like in my price range 10-11k. I have a come across a bunch of beautifull cut H-I color stones but am afraid to look at them because of the color? 1) Face up set in Platinum will I see a visable difference between a G and I color stone? 2) I had an offer for a Ideal cut H SI1 color stone perfect in every way, but it had a black cloud right in the center of the stone up top, how much will this effect the beauty of the diamond? 3) WHat is the most important aspect of a princess cut? I assume cut but what ranges? SHould depth be larger then table? should they not be equal? 4) Most importantly Im really just looking for COLOR advice between the G H I colors. am i driving myself nuts worrying about a visable difference that i will never notice in a platinum setting or will there actually be a visable difference? My girl friends sister in law has a G color stone so the stone I buy has to reflect just as white or else lol! PLEASE HELP BECAUSE IM DRIVING MYSELF NUTS. Thanks to all who responds.

Can you tell the difference b/w a G and I princess? Absolutely yes. Fancies show much more color than rounds. Is that a "bad" thing- depends on your eyes...and Researcher has a beautiful I that she says shows no color. It certainly is a beauty. You really need to use your eyes with the princess. I drove myself crazy (so I eventually switched shapes)...stones that have "ideal" numbers didn't necessarily wow me. YOu need to find yourself a good vendor who can get you started with good numbers...but then take you beyond that- to a great performing stones. Does the Si1 black cloud take away from the beauty? Only if you or your girl will obsess over it or dislike it when people look closely at the stone... ______________________________ Stewart says: I'm good enough. I'm smart enough. You will notice that princess cuts appear to have more facets than round diamonds - even though they have only about 2/3rds as many facets. Why / how could that be? Because the light tends not to go in and out in such a direct path in a princess as in a round. So guess what - the more color there is - the more likely you will see it in a princess than in a round. and - you notice that I has the largest price drop of all colors - why? Because it is the first big jump down in color. People and markets are not silly - they price very effectively. Garry Holloway FGAA DipDT |

http://www.diamondtalk.com/forums/t59892-idealcutprincessdiamondsdefinedlightperformancenotnumbersarekey.html Topps, I think that is a good article. I still wouldn't pay for an 80 depth stone if it sized up very small for the carat weight...but it's worth a read. Confirms that #s don't tell the story. ______________________________ Stewart says: I'm good enough. I'm smart enough. And doggon'it, people like me. |
