I just picked up my engagement ring and I have a question concerning the setting.  Is it possible that the basket setting is too big for the diamond?  The stone is a princess cut diamond, .61.  When I look down at the diamond, two of the sides of the diamond appear to rounded, rather than straight.   In looking at the cross bars/supports they are somewhat bowed out and don't fit very close to the diamond itself.

I don't think this is the way it should look and plan to go back to the jeweler to have it corrected, but want to have some idea of what I need to say so that it is done correctly.

Can anyone help me out?  Thanks.

When you look down at the diamond, is there more metal showing?  Do you mean the basket is too big for the diamond?  I would definetly take it back to the jeweler and have this corrected.

It is the metal of the bowed out support bars that I see when I look down at the diamond.   It makes the diamond look like it is round on the sides.

I will try to scan and post some pictures tonight when I get home.  Thanks.

I know what you're saying...it's as if the head was too wide and someone just squeezed the V prongs in to touch the diamond...so when you're looking at it face up, the "support bars" bow out and it looks round. I'd bring it back. I've had a few princesses and that never happened

I'm unable to get my scanner to cooperate, so won't be able to show pictures.
