Hi everyone, I am having a e-ring custom made, and have most of the details set, except for the mounting (probably the most critical part!). The setting will be wide (around 7mm) and flat all around, without changing in width or thickness. (see this link http://www.dimendscaasi.com/build/step1.asp?prodID=asscher5D for an example.. except I will not be using the side walls like shown there). I am setting a 1.6 c princess cut, and will add a number of sidestones in a pattern to be worked out. Any suggestions on different ways to mount the diamond? I haven't seen too many flat rings like the one shown in the link, and most of the ones I see have an arch at the top which I don't like. I would appreciate any examples that might help me chose the best mounting. The one thing I am going for is for the diamond is stick up in the air as LITTLE as possible. Also, I like tension style ones, but I think I am going to stay away from that due to some things I have read. Thanks in advance for the help! |

Here's one ![]() I think the thickness of the band (or the height of the setting) will have to change because the stone is quite deep and ring bands cannot be very thick between the fingers (2mm or so is the usual). Tappering a wide ring band towards the back does make it allot more confortable for a small ring size. This may not be as critical, but definitely counts for every day wear. It would be worth inspecting the rings already in use, IMO. Ana "The greatest experts are only as good as the sum total of what they have seen." [Souren Melikian] |

If the band needs to be the same around the finger, it might be fitted with some sort of basket to hold the diamond. It would have to be something custom made though - otherwise the non-tappering band would have trouble reaching high enough up the prongs to help them keep shape and hold the stone safely. This setting sort of comes close to the idea - just imagine the band does not gow up towards the diamond and some detail of the basket holding the stone will change. Michael Bondanza makes versions of the two. Ana "The greatest experts are only as good as the sum total of what they have seen." [Souren Melikian] |
