My purchase price is $14,000. I guess this seems like a good value. I am using this stone as a center for a three stone ring. Do you think I need to go with hearts & arrows on the side as well?

Sounds to me like you got a good price. How large are the side stones going to be? That is going to be one rocking three stone ring!!

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking about going with 0.52 carat sidestones G VS1 GIA certified. Do they need to be Hearts & Arrows?

With 0.52 sidestones, personally I don't think they NEED to be H&A. Ideal cut would suit me fine. Also, I would drop the clarity down 1-3 grades since it's much easier to find smaller stones that are eye-clean. If budget isn't a concern, I suppose it would be neat to have H&A, G VS1 sidestones if only to have the entire ring "match" -- but that would just be a mental thing, not something you can visually see.

Date: 2/10/2005 4:44:24 PM Author: VVS1 Thanks What is your opinion on these sidestones I would let the jeweler making the ring or the seller of the sidestones (whoever is concerned) match the stones. If these were earrings perhaps a perfect match is a bit overstated, but sidestones need to look the same, and there's no better matching device than a good look. H&A are very standardized, so those would make a safer matching bet. It's not that you "need" H&A - but other kinds of rounds, I'd have matched on purpose.

The jeweler making the ring did pick out these sidestones. I have seen them both and seems like a good match. what is your opinion on the size of the sidestones? Are they too small?

How will they be set???? And again, I guess your finger size determines that.....

Size of sidestones to center stone is personal preference, but I like the ratio you've selected. Are you thinking of going larger? As far as the sidestones themselves, I'd rather see minimum VG/VG for polish/sym, preferably Ex/Ex. Also, the tables are a bit large for my taste. You're already spending a good amount of money on the center stone -- don't sacrifice the sidestones. But in the end, if you've seen them in person and you like the way they match with the center, that's the most important thing.
