I AM BEING TOLD THAT ALL LUCERE DIAMONDS ARE BY DEFINITION AN IDEAL CUT DIAMOND SO THERE IS NO SENSE EVEN WORRYING ABOUT CUT QUALITY. THAT THEY WILL ALL BE THE SAME. YET WHILE READING AROUND THE NET MANY GEMOLIGIST HAVE ASKED FOR THE CUT QUALITY OF A LUCERE WHEN GIVEN THE COLOR, CLARITY, AND CARET IN ORDER TO APPRAISE THE STONE. I THINK YOU CAN SEE WHY I AM CONFUSED. CAN CUT QUALITY VARY ON A LUCERE????? IF SO CAN IT VARY ENOUGH TO EFFECT ITS FIRE/BRILLANCE/SCINTILATION OR FOR THAT MATTER CLARITY OR COLOR??????

THE OWNER OF SHOP I WAS IN TODAY WHO JUST GOT BACK FROM THE AFRICA TOUR OF CBG. SHE WAS ACTUALLY RECOMMENDED BY CUT BY GAUGE. SHE STATED THAT THEY FIRST SELECT THE STONE WILL ONLY CUT INTO AN IDEAL. I THOUGHT THIS WAS STRANGE BUT SHE DREW ME A PIC THAT CONVINCED ME. I AM IN SALES AND CONSIDER MYSELF TOUGH TO FOOL. CAN YOU EXPLAIN THIS PROPER TO ME. JONATHAN CANT GIVE ME ANY CUT SPECS ON LUCERE DIAMONDS EITHER SO IT ALMOST SEEMS BELIEVABLE.

There are a few Lucere in the "Educational" list (see under diamonds/educational/fancy shapes) on goodoldgold.com. They look pretty different to me. Each brand seems to claim the same - al their stones ar "the same" and "the best". Yeah... right. Why wouldn't they, after all ![]() Aside this... well, I am not sure what I am talking about but there seem to be "Lucere" diamonds out these being sold as generic radiants. I could not swear their cut is exactly like the patented one, but the brilliant style pavilion and step cut crowns are there. A combination of princess-style pavilion and step cut crown came up as well. Someone must be cutting these stones If you are after one with top brilliance and exactly that shape, perhaps the brand name does not have it all afterwards. Worth asking, I think.Ana "The greatest experts are only as good as the sum total of what they have seen." [Souren Melikian] |

Hi Cbane, The Jeweler you went to see is 100% correct all Lucere diamonds are cut within strict parameters to ensure a consistency in the make and brilliance of the stone. They are also made from rough that is carefully selected and is the same type of rough used to manufacture round ideals (Octahedral rough) Having said this there are slight variances in the proportions of a Lucere just as there are on an ideal round the main objective is to maintain the brilliance which is the essence of a diamond. I would encourage you to look at a Lucere side by side with Radiants and other square diamonds the brilliance difference will be obvious to you. Finally GIA's Graduate Gemologist is a high level, well respected, certifaction however not all gemologists have had experience working with the Lucere since it is more rare than traditional cuts and is a relatively new design.
