I'm trying to decide on a setting for a round 1.76 carat, H color diamond I picked out.  My girlfriend's ring size is approximately 5.25.  I've attached some pictures, below, of the settings I am considering.

Which setting would you pick?  Your opinions are most appreciated.

#1 - Scott Kay

Pajj, is there a diamond on both sides of the SK, or just one?

Erin,

There is a diamond on both sides of the two types of Scott Kay settings I posted.  He calls it a "surprise diamond."

I really like the style, but I am wondering where you would put the wedding band?  I guess it would have to be custom made, so it wouldn't hide the diamond?  Oh, but if it's a "surprise" diamond, then maybe it's supposed to be hidden by the wedding band!?  Anyway, I still like it.

Wow, three stone setting vs. solitaire...a lot of this boils down to personal preference.  Do you know if your girlfriend likes one over the other?

Of the three stones, I like #1.  Of the solitaires, I like #2.  I am a solitaire kind of girl, so my personal favorite is #2 (love Teebee's ring!!)

I think #1 is your best choice for a small size finger.  I also like the Scott Kay version with the channel set diamonds but I think it would be just too much for a finger that small.

Doesn't SK make matching wedding bands for that style?

SK looks like a very high setting better suited to small diamonds. If the proportions remains the same for you stone, I bet that will be hovering 1cm or so above the finger and that's quite allot for any ring, let alone a small ring size. High settings are not the most confortable - some like them so, but one needs to really like the type to adjust.

The others designs seem more likely to be easily adjusted to any size of stone and ring, IMO.

I have a 3 stone that I personally love, but my center stone is much smaller than your stone.  That said, you have a very large stone that can hold it's own and I can only imagine it would look amazing in a setting like Slammie's, which I LOVE

Good luck and please post pics of your stone and your final choice, we'd love to see it

# 4 gets my vote.  It's gorgeous!  Makes me jealous, my ring is a plain solitaire band close in size to your diamond.  One of these days I might reset......

#1 Classic standard well proportioned.

#2 No good… nothing to look at… it’s just an eternity blank with a peg setting.

#3 Okay a little more umff than # 1… same category.

#4 No good… too many do dads… trying to be something it can’t.

Ok... it is all a matter of taste and I can't say I do not understand the comments.  The last one is a bit puzzling: what is left to be disired by the fourth design ? No blatant faux pas comes to mind

I like all the settings... really depends on what your gurl likes.

Things to add:  I have a 3 stone ring with the center stone (1.25ct) larger and set higher than the sidestones (.25 ct ea).  I feel like I get a mix between a 3 stone and a solitiare because the sidestones are relative small compare to the center stone and not taking away from it and yet it still have 3 stones.  pic of my ering
