Purchased diamond online, high quality IF, good cut, E-color, radiant.  I also had the cutter recommend the diamond as the one with the most fire from a few I was picking from.  I had it independently appraised and verified.  We also had a lot of compliments on it initially.  It is in a simple tiffany style platinum setting.  There's not much room between bottom of diamond and setting (not raised very high), compared to other settings I've seen... where you can almost stick a toothpick underneath the diamond.

My fiance is worried that she needs to clean her diamond more often than some of her friends who she's compared notes with and also has brought up that several times her diamond has seemed cloudy compared to other she compared it to since.

I think it's from her constant use of hand lotion and soap.  Anyway, with the color and clarity I went for, I wanted her to have a diamond that would be impressive.

1. We've discussed getting a raised setting, does anyone know if this is a current practice to avoid a problem (if the problem is debris/lotion/soap caught on the platinum surface of the setting (or bottom of the diamond).  Or has anyone else had this problem of needing to constantly clean the diamond and come up with a fix.  Her friends say they clean there's once or twice a month, where hers it seems like atleast once a week???  So it just seems odd.

2. Is there anything I should worry about the diamond, I have the GIA report, got independent appraisal, looks great when cleaned... although typically we don't have a comparison diamond right there after it's cleaned.

Any insights would be helpful.

thanks

An easy solution is for her to take off her ring when she uses hand lotion and soap.  So no ring in the shower, or when washing her hands, etc.  Believe me, it makes a BIG difference.

Good luck!

Nothing is more detrimental to the sparkle of a diamond than hand lotions, soaps, shampoos, conditioners, etc.

It is ironic sometimes, seeing all the thought and money going to purchase an ideal cut diamond, only to see the diamond at a later date looking like a cheap rhinestone from lack of cleaning.

Cleaning can be a daily necessity to keep a diamond looking its optimal best, as just a tiny film from any of the culprits mentioned above can drastically reduce the sparkle of a diamond.

Maybe recommend removing the ring before applying any hand cream.

Or, purchase an ultrasonic cleaner for use at your home.
