Hi all- just found this site and I love it. I have been reading threads for hours.... It has helped me so much in my planning to pop the question. My problem is that I just cant seem decide on the right way to ask her. Let me share a couple details about my lady. She loves sports, cats, reading, antiques, shoes (good lord does she!!), & outdoors. We have been together for 5 years and this is kind of a formality as we have already planned marrage and way beyond. Basically, we both know we are meant to be together as does everyone that knows us. She basically knows what her ring will look like (because she told me what she wanted) and I have even shown her pics to get her opinion. Because it is forgone conclusion that we are getting married is the what is killing my planning for the proposal. I am not sure if I should go all out or just do it randomly. Anyway, I am a romantic so I want to do this right. I want something creative and about the best thing I have come up with is that I have my birthday coming in about a month. On my birthday, I am thinking of going out for a nice dinner and fun evening (which I havent exactly figured out yet). And then at the end of the night, I am going to tell her that I am really disappointed that I didn't get what I wanted for my birthday. Then, before she gets to upset, I will tell her that what I really wanted for my birthday was for her to say yes to my proposal. Then I would get down on one knee and do that whole part of it. I have read in many places that birthdays and holidays are bad times to ask but this idea is a little different. Is my idea cheesy?? So I figured I would put this out there and get advice from the real experts!  Thanks in advance |

I dont know about how i am a REAL EXPERT but I am in your same situation. I think thats a great idea. It will definitely catch her offguard which I think is a good thing. If you didnt want to do this I would suggest something that is in common with you and your lady like going to a favorite place or where you met. Just and idea though. I think that your original plan is great and I think you should go with it. Lets see what others think so you can decide whats best for you! Ohh, I have a thread on here about asking her parents with or without the ring to show them and ask for their blessing. What do you think?

Two things: 1) Make sure you set someone up(Friend/ Waiter) with a Digital or film CAMERA!, it's one of the most memorable things you can have. Picture it, 5, 10 and much more years have gone after your wedding day, and you still have a picture of your proposal. I'm a young man, and i really think this is a necessity, cuz, it gives you a great trip down memory lane, especially in trying times. 2) Be sure to get the Restaurant/Hotel staff involved, probably, getting them to play your song, or her favorite song as a means of setting the right mood. Probably, you could dance to your song, and just after that, get down on your knees and do your thing. All the best bro. love is a perfect bond shared by imperfect people |

Sounds good to me. Unless she has some weird hangup, she should love it. For proposals, I wouldn't worry too much about cheesy. I'd worry about stupid. Your proposal sounds fine. My friend's... well, as unromantic as I am, even I knew that it wasn't the best idea (it involved a homemade coupon). He's a great guy tho so she said yes anyways. So don't worry about it. If she really wants to marry you, you've got incredible leeway on the proposal part.

Post your city. Then people can be more specific in their help. At least the general region if you live in a small town. That's unless you live in NY or LA. There are tons of posts with great ideas on here already (how I found my place).

I am in Colorado Springs, CO and pretty much anywhere in the state is do-able.

Your idea is adorable! I really like that she'll be thrown off since its not her birthday, but yours. And I agree, make sure someone has a camera so they can take a picture of the two of you!
