Going to Maui soon - We have reservations at Nicks Fish Market for a special celebration night. Anyone been there? What about other reccomendations? It has been 26 years since I have been to Maui, so I'm sure it has changed. I was in Kaui last year and just loved the place.

My husband and I just got back from a week in Maui around Thanksgiving. It was gorgeous! We stayed in Kihei in a spectacular condo right on the water.  Highly recommended for your next trip, since they book so far ahead.  Perfect sunsets every night, snorkeling right in front of us with turtles and fish, beaches right next door, and we were super lucky the day we went to Haleakala Crater and caught some great views.  We were there for a couple of days last year, and tried the sunrise on Haleakala trip.  It was so cold and the winds were so strong, it was unbearable....but this year it was absolutely worth it.

We mostly ate at the condo, but I read about a great little sushi place in Dolphin Plaza in Kihei...so sorry, I forgot the name though, but you should be able to find it since the plaza is tiny.  Also, I hear nothing but good things about the Warren and Annabelle's dinner show...more the show but they say the food is great too.  Tickets for that show sell out pretty fast, so look for it now if your interested.  We missed it since shows were sold out while we were there.

Have a great time...

Rita

The best seafood on the island is at Mama's Seafood (http://www.mamasfishhouse.com/). Wailea is the toniest part of the island, and all the resorts there have excellent restaurants inside. Humuhumunukunukuapua at the Grand Wailea is wonderful. If you want something casual, my favorite is Bubba Gump's in Lahaina (you must have the coconut shrimp!).

You're in for a great vacation.  When I went to Maui a few years back, I stayed mostly in the Kihei and Wailea area as they boast many of the best beaches in the world.  If you like to snorkel, don't miss The Fishbowl.  It's a long hike over lavarock, but definately worth the trek as the name suggests it's a lagoon teeming with fish.

I agree with MaryAlaina on her recommendation for Humuhumu at the Grand Wailea.    This restaurant is unforgettable.  You will dine on fabulous cuisine as exotic tropical fish swim around and underneath you.  I would recommend this place as a contender for your last night in Maui.

If you want to do the luau thing, many recommend the Old Lahaina Luau by the Sheraton in Lahaina as the most authentic luau in all the island.  It was okay in my opinion and I'm glad I got to experience it.

A great book that I used to guide my trip was called  Maui Unrevealed.  This book can be found in any Barnes and Noble or Borders bookstores.  It's humorously written and gives a great insider's view on the best spots on the island for good eats, cheap eats, must see sightseeing, best beaches, and everything else you'll need to know to have a great time in Maui.

Have fun!

Our all time favorite is Pacifico's at the far end of Lahina.  The fish is has interesting preparations and the tastes are to die for.  Ask for an outside table.
