Hi there,

Is it common to be able to see multiple tiny grains in a VS1 GIA graded diamond with a 10x loop? I have yet to see the original certificate - I'm guessing that would list out the imperfections?

VS1 ?  Perhaps if graining is the only inclusion, but even then... Sure it's not dust or some other of the sort?

If you can pick it up easily at 10X, than whatever that is should be mentioned on the cert, I would think. Graining would be mentioned as a comment rather than marked on the clarity plot by GIA.

Is graining a big deal? And is it common for VS1s to have grains?

I am not sure that what you see is "graining" and not something else... otherwise, no, this is not a particularly unsedirable type of inclusion. Quite the contrary, I'd say, because they do not show as much as others. This is why pictures are hard to take and I know of none online!

Just my 0.2, of course.
