Hello everyone. I was doing a search related to the Tolkowsky cut and EGL certifications. I guess they may not be too acurate. Anyways, I was hoping you guys could give me a heads up on the specs of the diamond if i give you the demensions. It looks good to me and the inclusions i noticed under 10X mag. were really barely visible and not underneath the table but more towards the edge eventhough it's an SI1. Please let me know what you guys think of this diamond. He wants $5,200 back for it. Here are the specs and price.... Report Issued by EGL (I saw it might be from Isreal since it said so on the paper the diamond was in) Weight: 1.03Cts Shape and Cut: Round Brilliant Measurements: 6.45 - 6.43 x 4.06mm Proportions Total Depth: 63% Table Width: 58% Crown Height: 15% Pavilion Depth: 44% Girdle Thickness: Medium, Faceted Finish Polish: Very Good Symmetry: Very Good Cutlet: None Clarity Grade: SI1 Graining: Nil Color Grade: F Flourescence: None Comments: "TOLKOWSKY IDEAL CUT" - The proportions of this diamond are within tolerance of those proposed by Marcel Tolkowsky, as the ideal balance between brilliance and dispersion. Price $5,200 no tax Thanks again! The diamond is too expensive for what it is. 1. Depth = 63% .too deep, it will appear smaller than a diamond with an ideal depth. An not deep 1.03 carats should be around 6.5mm, yours is 6.4 2. Table = 58% is wider than AGS ideal cut specifications..however, some like the look of a larger table because it makes the diamond appear larger..however, IMO it does not go well with a 63% depth. 3. 44% pavillion depth is too deep 4. You don't have the crucial pav and crown ANGLES (not percentages) 5. The numbers that you do have (table, total depth, pav percentage are all rounded off instead of being right on) So my final opinion... You can do better! Good Luck

"Tolkowsky" doesn't gaurantee a good looking diamond. At extreme ranges it can be quite bad. But, unless I am wrong, this diamond doesn't make Tolkowsky's cut proportions anyways ????? Depth% 60.1-62.8% Table% 53-57% TnT.J.K. |

Hey guys. This is great info. I thought it was off. I actually downloaded and printed the book on this sight before I decided to get some more info. I was going to have it appraised before purchase since i was sure it was off but I don't think i'm going to bother. I'll pay 10K if i have to but finding a good diamond is proving to be a challange. I was a bit doubtfull about this diamond so i'll see what else i can find. Thanks for all your help everyone. I really appreciate it. I'll keep you all posted. Thanks Vince

Ok guys... I promised to keep you all posted. I found this great diamond and it's got 99.9% of what i'm looking for. Looks great even in the dark.. :) GIA Certified Diamond 1316xxxx Round Brilliant 1.51 Ct. Measurements 7.35 - 7.43 x 4.56 mm Proportions Depth 61.7% Table 58% Girdle Medium, Faceted Culet None Finish Polish Excellent Symmetr Excellent Clarity Grade SI1 Color Grade F Fluorescense None Price: $11,500 (Diamond) plus $800 for the platinum solitaire setting installed and tax free. Diagram: As far as the diagram goes it has 1 small cloud but it is not viislbe to my 20/20 vision and i did see it under 10X mag. but i had to look at it from th side to see it. It also has 1 small needle or feathers by the girdle on the edge. So what do you guys think? For me the most important thing is cut and the proportions looked pretty good to me. GIA doesn't give enough info though... This diamond has a lot of life that i could see but i'm not an expert. I'm going to go see a similar damond 1.57ct but very good, very good and the proportions are a bit off (like 63, 58) HRD certified for 10,000. Should i go with the cheaper one or stick with the first one?

My prediction is the combination of likely crown and pavilion angles will result in a lot of leakage in the table if you saw it through an ideal-scope.

So should I keep looking? I looked at the 1.57 F SI1 today and it does have a lot of inclusions so i'm leaning towards the 1.51 F SI1. Time is running out but i want to make a good decision. Even if I can't pop the question on the 25th. How can i get the crown and pavilion angles if I don't have them on the GIA cert? Do you guys think the price is right for the 1.51 F SI1? It's a really clean SI1 Thanks for all your help everyone!
