I'm in the market for a new diamond for an engagement ring. Not too surprisingly this is the first time I'm buying a dimaond and I'm unsure on proper etiquette. I'm using a dealer that was suggested by a friend. Is it bad form to continue to look for diamonds through other sources? Once you start working with someone is it assumed you'll buy the diamond from them? I'd appreciate feedback from diamond dealers and brokers. Thanks!

I don't know about your specific situation, but in general, I think you are spending a large amount of money, and you should do what is right for you without being obligated to one source. I wouldn't ask the person to jump through a lot of hoops of spend a lot of money trying to find you a stone if you don't plan to buy from them. That said, I think you should definately read the tutorials here are at other sites, and shop around so that you know you are getting what you want.
