hi there. first of all, this forum is killer. what great feedback everyone offers!

I am thinking about buying the following and am freaking out a bit with uncertainty (a diamond virgin I am). Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Here are the specs:

Carat weight: 1.01
Cut: Very Good
Color: I
Clarity: SI1

Depth %: 73.6%
Table %: 71%
Symmetry: Good
Polish: Good
Girdle: Thin to very thick
Culet: None
Fluorescence: None
Measurements: 5.55x5.53x4.07 mm
Length/width ratio: 1.00

Price: $3878.

I am a bit worried about the I color and the SI1. Will it appear yellowish on a platinum setting?

Thanks for your help!

I would worry about the girdle being very thick in places...this will make the diamond appear a little bit smaller.  To answer your question about the "I"color...it all depends on the diamond.  If the diamond is truly a well cut diamond then the high amount of light return will help to mask any yellow color.  This is why a well cut I may appear (or "face up") white.  If the diamond is not well cut it will show more yellow.  Unfortunately it is not possible to determine the cut of the diamond with the numbers you posted...we need more information.  Ask the vendor to run a sarin and post the results here.  That will help to give you a better idea of overall cut and potential light return.  If this diamond is from a jeweler then go in and view the stone against other stones to see how yellow it appears.  Also make sure it is an eye-clean SI1 stone.  If this diamond is from a trusted online vendor then ask them to evaluate the stone for you...is it eye-clean?  Does it face up white or yellow?  Good luck and I hope this helps!

I don't think this stone is the best, although I can't really say until you have the crown and pavilion info. That being said, check out:
