Just got my ring today from BlueNile and am now working on the details of the proposal.  My gf has a conference this week in Vegas and I'm flying out at the end of the week for a long weekend.  We are staying at the Paris and I have rented a Harley on Saturday for the day.

My original idea was to head out to Red Rock Canyon, hire a photographer and when we met the photographer there, just tell my gf that I thought it would be fun to get some pictures taken with the scenery.  Then during the photo shoot, do the proposal and have the photographer get it all on film.  Now with the weather being a bit cooler up at that elevation (~3000-4000), I'm not sure I want to chance having to deal with possible snow, being too cold etc...I am still considering it, but would love to hear from anyone that could recommend a photographer...

I know it would be nice to have some photos of the proposal itself, but it may seem strange to her to hire a photographer just to get some pictures with the scenery.  If you think it'll work for you then go for it.  It seems a little complicated to me.  As for the proposal location--why not!  A beautiful location is always an excellent location for a proposal.  As for the weather, unless you're going up in swimsuits you can be dressed for the weather.  People do manage to live where it snows (I wouldn't know about that though.  I grew up in southern California.

You can propose in "public" places in private if you want.  If you can find a place that's a little off to the side or where others would be distracted by something else you can propose in relative privacy.  If there are people nearby you do always run some risk that onlookers might feel a need to clap or congratulate you.  Scout out some locations you like and watch them for a few minutes to see what the foot traffic is.

Damn cold there right now.  I go every week for work and ride almost year around here in NYC.  Make sure you have good gear if you go riding including an electric vest for her!

Thought I would post my update!  It was pretty cold, but we managed!  I posted the story over at the motorcycle forum I frequent and thought I would share:

Actually, when I used to live in Vegas I knew a guy that did photography on the side.  I called him up and he agreed to meet us out there to do it, but we were about 10 minutes late and either he didn't show up or we just missed him.  It ended up working out just fine though because of the couple that was about 25 yards away when I proposed....they rushed over and took the picture of us where I was still on one knee...
