Oh such guilt over a pair of earrings!

I don’t know where to start…… for the past few months I’ve been sifting through the Pricescope database for reasonably priced diamonds for earrings.  I also looked at local jewelry shops (they offered to bring in a pair in the color and clarity I wanted, alas, they never called me back) but they didn’t seem to have what I was looking for on hand.  I never thought I’d find a pair that would work within my self-imposed budget.  Argh!! And I did and I kept looking for reasons why I couldn’t move forward.  My husband was no help.  He didn’t tell me not to (I hate that!!!  The first time ever I want him to reel me back in and he doesn’t!)  He reminded me that I did all my homework and told me to get them if they were what I wanted

Speed up to the present……I placed an order with Denise at Whiteflash for a pair of  A Cut Above H&A diamonds totaling 1.50 carats and am awaiting their arrival tomorrow.  Mind you, Denise also didn’t tell me not to get them ( I can’t say I expected her to do that).  Why do I feel guilty over this purchase?  Is there a reasonably priced therapist available on this forum that can resolve my ‘Diamond Acquisition Guilt’?  Does it ever become a guilt-free experience to buy these things for yourself?  If I hand them over to my husband, and have him wrap them up and give them to me at Christmas, will that resolve the guilt? ;)  Perhaps a diamond stud for his nose would make me feel like I shared the joy?

I think it’s the issue of a “want” vs. a “need”.   Oh, I want to live guilt free!  What will I do when I have the package in my hand?

Helen (who is trying real hard to feel less guilty)

What will you do when you get the package in your hand????

You'll post pictures of them here; that's what!

PS- Honey are you Catholic?

(the guilt will soon pass)

I hope all goes well for you and that you can overcome this feeling.

However, if you are unable to reconcile this, please feel free to send them to me.  You can unburden yourself, and I will have *no* guilt issues.

Don't feel guilty, feel proud of yourself for choosing top quality stones and saving money!  You would probably have spent more at a mall store and you would have gotten diamonds that are not nearly as pretty as your ACAs!

Now, if your children are going without shoes so you can have new earrings, then you can feel guilty.

Pteunia, Pricescope IS our therapy.  It took me a while but I finally figured that out.  Put those sparklers in your ears and go forth and shine!  Go girl!

first of all, you will feel great when you see them and know how absolutley amazing they are!  also, your husband sounds alot like mine (not reeling you in when you think you need it) but if i said i wanted earrings (or whatever) and then i didn't go get them, he would probably show up sometime with a pair WITHOUT doing any research at all into diamonds, and they wouldn't be that great for the$$.  my point is, you should be proud of yourself for doing much research before buying.  you can be certain that you have a beateous pair of earrings and know that you got your $$$ worth!  now you have your hard earned reward!!! YEAH! congratulations! can't wait to see the pics!

Ladies
Thank you so very much for your kind words.  All family members have everything they need and then some!
I guess this feeling of guilt will ease once I see the earrings, which won’t be till tomorrow evening.  If I drive like a woman possessed during my lunch hour (which won’t be too far from the truth tomorrow), I can probably pick it up and get back to work within the allotted time.  Better warn everyone I know to stay off the road during that hour.
You know, I was going to insert a line regarding my “catholic guilt” but I didn’t want to bring in religious issues   Is it that obvious??  I do believe my mother still has my parochial school uniform from high school at her house somewhere.
So, I’ll keep myself busy tonight undergoing therapy by reading the posts on Pricescope as suggested.
Thanks again.

I KNEW it!  I knew it.

I can spot a Catholic a mile away!  Must have been the 12 years in Catholic school.
I've got the guilt, and I've got it bad.

Enjoy your earrings--you're worth it and life is short and unpredictable--have fun and stop worrying unnecessarily.

PS post pics when you receive them--That is a perfect size, esp in WF stones...wow!

Ah, I feel for you!  My mom was raised catholic and went to the private schools and all, but eventually rebelled, ran away from home and discarded ALL of her upbringing except the guilt.  Now I'm to blame for everything.  I feel so guilty!  lol

I think I am a defective Catholic....I never feel guilty about anything, especially about purchasing an item for myself. In fact, I think I'm on the other end of that spectrum to my hubby's chagrin. My Sunday school teacher would be SO disappointed!!!

Congrats on the earrings and yes please do post those beeeaaautttifulll pictures!!
