what is considered normal wear to platinum?  I have a ring about one year old w/ several small scratches and nicks.  Also, how often is ok to buff/polish?

My wife has worn her platinum ring now for nearly two years and hers has scratches here and there.  That's normal.  Most people will say to get your ring professionally cleaned once every six months or once per year.  However, you could always buy cleaning solution and certain jewelry cloths to keep in clean yourself.  To get the scratches out though, you would most likely need to take it to a local jeweler to get buffed or polished.  The timefram or how often this needs to be done really depends how the ring is treated by the owner.

thanks for the information!  I had read once that the weight of platinum is not comprimised as is the case with gold when you have it buffed or polished.  Does this mean that you could choose to have this type of maintenance done as often as you like?  Thanks!

Pretty much. I was told to try to limit myself to no more than 3 times a year. And I abuse my platinum like no one's business. Platinum only "moves" when buffed and you don't lose any metal like you will with Gold.

thanks everyone for your replies.  Ame, is your ering or wedding band platinum?  I ask because both mine are and it seems that the two sitting next to one another on my finger contributes to the scratching?
