hi, just collected the ring and only noticed at home that some parts (the underside of the prongs if it makes any sense) are still "yellowish". Its supposed to be white gold and rhodium plated. There's a 750 inscribed on the inside of the band. Should it not be fully shiny and white? I don't understand the process of setting the diamond and plating the ring. Which happens first? Can the jeweller still plate the bits that are yellowish now that the diamond is set? The design is similar to the royal crown. Does it make it difficult for coat the inside of the prongs?

atelier7, Talk to your jeweler about your concern. Rhodium plating can be a little tricky sometimes and it's possible that they made an error. If so, it's easy to remedy. The decision to plate or set the stones first will depend on the design of the ring and the areas that you want plated. Plating is a surface treatment and the process of setting the stones will leave tool marks on the prongs. Removing these marks will remove the plating as well so it is necessaary to plate after setting if the prongs themselves are to be plated. I agree with denverappraiser. For the record, 750 stands for 18 kt. |
