hi all.... wanted to pose a question or two regarding the jubilee cut. i've been searching and learning about diamonds for only a few weeks now so i'm just a rookie. my soon to be fiance - 6-8 months or so i think..... loves the princess cut. we've been looking at princess cuts and radiants and i really knew nothing about the jubilee until i came upon gog's website. the diamond looks fantastic, but i wanted to get some opinions if i may on a couple of items. first, i'm looking to spend around $8500. on a diamond; plus or minus. i've been looking at princess cuts in the 1.2x - 1.3x carat range. e to f in color, vs1, vs2 clarity. from the little research i've done i'd prefer one with a smaller table compared with depth %. this seems to rule out a lot of diamond's that i come across but that's okay - i'm in no rush. the jubilee has thrown a fun twist in my thoughts -- i'd love to hear from anyone who has seen a jubilee cut in person. i've been emailing with timothy at gog (has been extremely helpful btw) and he recommend's the jubilee over the princess because the fire and sparkle is much more in the jubilee and i beleive him... to stay within my budget however i would have to sacrifice carat weight, and color - to say a one carat g or there abouts.... see the dilemma? also, i know the physical shapes are quite different from earlier posts --- i think i'm trying to compare apples to oranges and it's crazy! i'd love your thoughts on the two cuts. any thoughts on helping me to lean one way or the other?? then i'll be able to focus on one cut and find the right diamond! thanks for your attention in advance - this is a great resource for everyone; i've had a ball reading and learning from all the various posts and look forward to more. oh, almost forgot.... my future fiance and i just moved to sydney, australia from minneapolis around one month ago and i haven't seen a jubilee which is why i'm looking for help!-- anyone know if someone in sydney has jubilee cuts that i might be able to see?? gary? thanks again all... darin |

Hi rareform, and welcome! I've seen a few of GOG's jubilees, and thought they were beautiful. They really have the fire of a round, but with a cool squarish shape, for those who like squares better. In my humble opinion, the best of both worlds!

i too think jubilees are awesome (from the pics i've seen), BUT, if she loves princesses as you say and has her heart set on a princess engagement ring, then IMO you really better get a princess.

Does she like a princess because she likes the look of a squarish over a round diamond? Or does she like a princess because she like the look of a princess? A Jub is really quite different. I think, unless you can show her a Jub, the safe thing to do is to get a princess.

thanks for your replys... i don't think her heart is SET on a princess.... all of her friends have round brilliants apparently, and she wants something a bit unique. she's very 'classic' though so the other fancy shapes don't appeal to her as much, and i know she prefers a clean and simpler setting than one that is ornate. (we've done some window shopping) i think i'll try and show her a jubilee online and we'll go from there..... just wish we could see one in person! thanks again for your input! darin
