I've been reading through many posts over the weeks and noticed that Derco seems to be one of the better B&M stores in the northern Cali area. I'm not a big fan of San Fran, but I also heard that there's another Derco located in San Jose. For those of you that have been to both stores, what do you think of the San Jose store? What are the prices like? Are they comparible? What about their selection?

---------------- Hi Tech, I've been to both the SF store which located in the gift center (supposedly wholesale market but in reality not and plus they now sell to public) and also the one in san jose, santana row. I think they are pretty comparable and they told me that the prices are the same in both locations. One pro for the SJ location is that you can go there on the weekends whereas the gift center is only open on the weekdays except for the holiday season and you have to call them so that you can get a pass downstairs in the lobby. I think I remember you posting about a store in Roseville? I'm not familiar with that store, but I've been to roseville several times for work and I think it's definately worth the trip to come up to the SJ and take a look..they probably have more stock in the store that you can look at due to store traffic, etc. I don't think they offer sarin reports and such, but they carry AGS stones so you can get crown/pavillion angles in addition to table and depth. Good luck!!

Thanks for the info slammie. Is there are particular sales person that you recommend? I was thinking about making the trip down to SJ this weekend. Also, would you say that ~10-12% below rap sheet is a good price for a diamond?

---------------- tech newbie alot depends on the cut qualitly and which lab cert the stone. there are stones offer on E-bay at 40% below rap that i wouldn't touch. it is always harder to find a "mind clean" stone than a eye clean stone. |
