Hi,
Did anyone ever notice that Tiffany doesn't sell it's diamonds loose? It's only sold mounted in a setting? I wonder if they don't because if you were to get it appraised it will most likely come in way lower than what you paid for it since you are paying inflated prices for the brand name. Does anyone know of this or have any opinions to share? Unfortuneately this is not going to stop me from maybe buying a Tiffany because I have a $5,000.00 credit that was given to me to spend there & I really fell in love with their solitaire bead setting ring. I'm only in the considering stage & haven't completely made up my mind but I will of course check the specs on it with the HCA advisor before buying it. I have owned a Tiffany in the past & have found it to be very brilliant even though it wasn't an ideal cut & was an H color. If you compare the fire though to a hearts & arrows you will definitely notice less in the Tiffany. That doesn't bother me though becuase I'm more of a Brilliance than fire person. By the way even with the $5,000.00 credit I'll have to throw in $10,000.00. Call me crazy but it's for a decent size 1.25 & I just like the setting & the way it looks overall. I would never buy a solitaire of that size for $10,000.00.

Could you perhaps get the setting and a small stone for the $5K, and then reset the small stone in a pendant (it would make a nice gift for the day of the wedding!) and buy a bigger stone with the 10K? You could get something like this 1.50 G SI1 H&A or this 1.51 E SI1 with good-looking image-scope for that price. Just remember that this will only work if the head of the setting can be modified.

Honestly, what is the big deal if Rosy does get a Tiffany's ring? If the premium name is worth it to her, and she doesn't mind sacrificing the quality for a Tiffany's name, that's her decision.

I'll be honest, i don't like the idea of buying a less expensive ring there, and then modifying it to have a bigger (non-Tiffany) stone. To me, you can damage the integrity of the ring, and it will never be a Tiffany ring that is covered under their warranty and maintenance. I also do no trust anyone who is readily willing to change the head on a proprietary ring, just to make the diamond bigger on it...

I guess if I had designed a lovely ring and took all that effort and hard work to market it, etc, as a designer or company of such a ring, it would break my heart to see some person who doesn't know my work to come and alter it and depreciate it like that. To each his own, and once you buy something it's yours to neglect, adapt and use, but I just think if you want the name, there is a price tag that comes with it, just pay it or not.

$5000 is a great diamonds by the Yard necklace, or a pair of fabulous diamond and ruby/sapphire earrings, or diamond and platinum earrings, a great classic strand of pearls, a great South Sea Pearl solitaire, or even a really great wedding band with diamonds on it, like the etoile or the channel sets...

And if you really like other non=Tiffany's cuts, your $10000 will get you the SAME size stone as TIffany's, but the $5000 will get you the Tiffany's ring (but the w-ring, instead of e-ring). Just a thought.

Good luck either decision!

i like the idea of using the $5k for the wedding band!  and if you post a picture of the bead set solitaire, i bet we can help you find something very similar elsewhere for the e-ring.  but good luck either way.

I like the idea of using the $5,000 for the wedding band also - BUT if you really like the Tiffany e-ring I think you should get it! You will live with this ring for a long time - everyday and it should be what you want - no one else but you and with the $5,000 gift certiticate - not a bad price! Good luck with whatever you choose!
