Ok, I've read Fred's book and have read every single post on this board in regard to him. I am aware that most here may find some of the information he gives to be misleading at best. I have spent the last 4 months trying to educate myself on buying a diamond. His book helped and this site helped as well. DCI has found a diamond for me and I am within days of buying. Here are the specs.

Box Radiant
1.45 Carat H-1 color VS-2
Table 65%
Total Depth 61%
Crown angle 33.5
Crown height 11.4%
Pavillion Angle 43.4
Pavillion Depth 48.1%
Polish VG
Symmetry VG
Girdle Medium-Thick
Fluorescence None

I am seeking advice! I have looked at hundreds of stone prices and contrary to what I am reading here, the price I have been quoted is better than any comparable diamond I have found. I would like any advice that anyone could give as to why I shouldn't buy this stone. Any and all opinions are greatly appreciated. If you have any opinions at ALL please post because this is my first and last big diamond purchase!

THANK YOU!

Ask him to give you an ideal-scope photo and or a gem adviser .gme file (which he can do with his copy of DiamCalc and a Sarin 3D scan)

Will do Gary. Do you think I will see something that I don't want to?

Your advice is appreciated!

I am, by no means, a radiant pro... but i saw this DCD signature series radiant & thought it looked beautiful in the pic - 1.42 G SI1 for $7K.
I thought it might give you something to compare your DCI stone to... good luck to you Skip!

Thank You Alexah.

I checked the diamond out and it looks good. I ran both numbers through the AGA DIY grade cut calculator. The stone you suggested came back as a 2B (International Fine Trade Cut). The one I am currently looking at is a 1A (Ideal).

Can anyone tell me what to expect in terms of brilliance, fire, etc. going from a 2B to a 1A?

Thanks.

What's that big dot in the middle? A crystal? And there is no way to judge a fancy by the numbers. That looks good...but I don't trust trick photog!

I don't know what the dot is. AS far not trusting the trick photo.....can I have a AGA class 1A VS-2 (eye clean) stone that is a total dud? If there is no way to judge a "fancy", why would someone put info out to make you feel that you can? I would say that if they offer a cut range for radiants, then you can judge them and they did. Am I way off?

Thank You and keep the coments coming!

you're a little off....the cut grade charts are designed as a guide and the originator, OldMiner (Dave) will be the FIRST one to tell you that. Just ask him

...just because depth and table for fall into the 1A catag doesn't make it a great stone. YOu want to get good crown and pavillion angels. A good way to start is to get table a little less than depth (still not a guarantee, as is demonstrated by the DCD stone). So, while a 65.5 table and a 60 depth are each 1A, I would not pick that stone over all others.

And who says it's eye clean? Not all vs2 stones are eye clean despite bs on the internet telling you you can only see the inclusions at 10X. That dot looks like a dark crystal. Could be a reflection only..but I'd check. The stone looks pretty...I wouldn't call it a dud. It has decent numbers so you never know. The crown angle is a little low but not as low as I would expect from those numbers...

Thanks for your input moremoremore. This forum is a great tool. Your knowledge seems far greater than mine. I know my girlfriend will be happy with whatever she gets at this point (it's been 6 yrs) but I want to get the best quality cut I can for my money. In your last post, you mention crown and pavillion angles. With the knowledge that you have, what crown and pavillion anges would you shoot for in a radiant?

Thanks.

I get ya, which is why I'm here. Now, with what I have posted in regard to the specs, what can you tell me? If you are a "cut nut", how does this stone look to you. Are you against radiants in general or just DCI in general? To me the stone "appears" to be the best I have come across. I'm sure you have the DiamCalc, can you run it for me? I care nothing about the bonding and warping and all the other crap, but I can't get anyone to show me a stone that compares. What's your time worth? I'll pay you for the info, I just need some guidance. Name your price.

Thanks.

I can not run a meaningful diamCalc with that data - you need to get us a 3D scan data (email to me) or a .gem file which we can all see and run.

or just an ideal-scope photo.

Re am I biased against DCI and Radiants - yes

Biased against both....I like that

Thanks for the help Gary!

Gary, I justed wanted to let you know that I am not going with DCI. After seeing the post about the megascope report, I have seen enough. Thank you for helping me see the light.

I have also refined my search to a round diamond. I feel more comfortable with it. I feel they are easier to judge and my girlfriend would love it all the same. I have also looked at some of the vendors on this site and I am impressed with a few. I think I am impressed most with goodoldgold. I am thinking I will give them a call.

I am glad you have seen the light. I was cornered by DCI as well. I am glad that you found this site as I had. DCI is not worth our time, in my opinion, they have steered many unsuspecting customers they are trying to "help" the wrong way. I too was in the same situation you were in... Trying to get my wife a box radiant and decided to get a round. She will not be dissapointed. I have not worked with good old gold, but every vendor and many people here have nothing but great things to say about them.... Check out all the other PS vendors also... People here are really wanting to help... not like DCI who is into scare tactics to get people to buy from them... What a crock of poopoo!

Who needs politicians when you got DCI?

Amen to that. I guess more than anything I am ticked at myself for buying the BS. I am the type of person who finds value in quality and that's what they were playing me into. Boy was I wrong. I will check the other PS vendors but goodoldgold seems to show you everything that most are trying to hide. Maybe not here, but in some of the B+M stores I've been in. Thanks for the comments.
