Hi there, this is my first post. I confess, I am a lurker. I have been facing a slight dilenma with the setting for my new diamond !My fiance has been wonderful, he got a beautiful e-ring back in March, but he told me that we could upgrade because the original ring he had purchased (he bought three) had a much larger diamond. But he wasn't sure if I liked a larger stone... So last week we decided on an upgrade, from my current 1.04 carat princess cut G, VS2, no cutlet, no flor. to an Asscher cut, just under 2 carats, G, VS1 or VVS2 (can't remember right now, sorry, don't have stats) no cutlet/flor. YAY for me ! So the problem lies in the setting. My fiance and I have totally different tastes in settings. I want a antique or ornate setting, possibly with a matching wedding band. He wants a more modern setting that has a larger band so I would not have a wedding band. Please tell us what you think: I don't know how to get pics on here, so the best I can do is give you the links :#1 cartier style http://www.artofplatinum.com/gallery/r165-14W.jpg #2 Daniel K. Split shank http://www.danielk.net/flash/index.html (Pic #7 in Bridal) #3 OGI bridal set http://www.ogi-ltd.com/gallery_bridal0.html #4 OGI band http://www.ogi-ltd.com/gallery_bridal1.html (#34 or #35, which I would have made into a set, instead of only a band) #5 save our money now and get a plain white gold setting and band and get a nice set later Thank you! -Alice

Well, I'm going to be no help at all because I think the settings you've posted here are all gorgeous! If I had to choose one, I'd say the first is my favorite.

hi, nice to meet you, we have the same taste! when i first saw this post i was planning to post both the daniel k AND that leon mege for you. i love those! i'm with patty, the leon is one of my all-time faves. i also love the DK. the OGIs i saw looked like they were for RBs? maybe i was looking at something different. but in any event i say #1 or #2 for sure!
(that DK setting is going to be frickin' expensive though . . .)

i don't know how you feel about the pave around the stone but in my book this ring is pretty much perfection. also by daniel k.

I like the Mege best. My personal preference for asschers, ECs, jubilees, regents, etc. is to showcase the center stone because they are so extraordinary in their own right. I think halo settings or a lot of melee and bead set close to the stone detracts from its beauty.

First of all, I am so excited for you that you got an Asscher!!! I am so jealous! LOLI love that Daniel K setting. Ever since Reena showed it to me, I've been hooked on that particular one. But I also love that first OGI one. Its fabulous!!! I can not wait to see your finished ring!

Love em all. But I am of opinion that since you will be the one wearing the ring, that you should pick the setting. If he's wearing it, he can pick it. Don't let him push you around LOL I'm sure his main goal is for you to be happy. So YOU pick the setting that makes YOU the happiest!

Thanks everyone.... My favorite is the Cartier replica by artofplatinum. I know we are already spending quite a bit with the upgrade...(fiance is just starting out and will be returning to grad school, finishing up my last two semesters of grad school). So I am having a hard time convincing him and myself that we should do something extravegant. I think I am already a certified "brat" because of the upgrade, but I know that the setting will probably set us back quite a bit too... A part of me want to just say wait to upgrade the setting, and just get a plain band and setting right now...the brat part of me says "C-A-R-T-I-E-R!!!!!! Replica-that is.... ![]() Man, how do you all do it? You all have magnificant rings! Geez...we will know and decide by tomorrow! ANy other input?

Thanks, Reena, I tried to insert that quote when I did the "carpe diem" reply but something went amiss(i.e. I'm technoincompetent).

Well, I went ahead and called up our jeweler and asked about that artofplatinum/cartier setting. I would use Leon, however, we have a good friend that we get our diamonds from and he has three old-smiths that he uses and trusts (one is from Harry Winston) so I think it will be okay.... Now, if only he could just get back to me about the price...! Man, I feel like a spoiled brat. I think it's cause everyone around here has rings more in the .5 range. My original was just over a 1Ct...See! Not to mention, I think the Future Mother In Law will probably be pretty pissed when she sees this. Just can't win!

Ahem, for the record, I want everyone to know that I have never done anything cute with an emoticon. I don't even know any emoticons. Oh, wait, last week I drank 5 mojitos in a very short amount of time and rode home with someone who I believe looked like this but I thought he was real!!LostNWonderland -- fuggedabout pissing off the future MIL, if she doesn't get over it, send her to us and we'll take care of her. Congrats on such a fabulous diamond!
In regards to the OGI rings, I will tell you that I own 5 of them and am currently in the process of selecting two more (they are the BEST for stacking in all different combinations!), and I can tell you that they are of the best made pieces I have ever owned or seen.
But, while I wholeheartedly endorse their line because I've been so pleased, I don't think that they are best suited for your stone. You did choose some of my favorites (I actually own a different version of #34 -- mine has no milgraining, but has diamonds), but your stone would look best in a different style.
Personally, I find that LM to be too "chunky/heavy" for my taste.
Also, the DK split shank I feel is best suited (and designed for) a RB, as shown. BUT, what about the DK he shows on his home page, featuring the Asscher cut? To me, that is THEEE WAY to set an Asscher. Absolutely stunning. Nothing left to say about it!
Also, I bet you could have a matching band that would actually fit flush (yay!!!).
