 Buy Diamond or Setting First?

I am thinking about buying an E-ring from one online vendor, but I may purchase the diamond from another online vendor. The setting (Jaffe) has diamonds in it also and is available with different grades of diamond at different price points.

Should I buy the setting first at the price I can afford and then find a center stone to match it? Or should I buy a center diamond I like first and try to match the setting to it? What to do, what to do...

It's a personal choice and what you are comfortable with.  How visual of a person are you?  I'd like to get the center stone first so when you go look for a setting you can place YOUR center stone in to the desirable setting and see how it fits/looks.  But for some people, they have a setting in mind already, so they would get the setting first and see which stone would be best for it.  Think about what size / shape diamond you like.... ?

Certain designs will only work for very specific diamonds but most can be adjusted to fit a pretty big range. If you've got a ring that you love, ask the jeweler what the parameters are for a diamond to fit in it and see if you can find a diamond that you like that will work for both the ring and your budget. If so, you've got a hit. If not, you will have to consider a different ring or a different diamond.

Most of the Jaffee designs are pretty forgiving about this.

What difference does it make? There seems to be no stock shortage of either Jaffe settings or diamonds. You can always find whichever. For now, you know what setting (or kind of setting) you like and it will be awaiting there diligently until you find a diamond. If the very same setting cannot be persuaded to fit the rock, another can always be made.

DO you have a image of what the finished ring should look like on your hand (the size of diamond and setting details that is) ? It would be easier to look out to 'assemble' a given look, IMO
