I just received a princess cut in the mail. It sparkles like no tommorrow

However, when looking at a princess cut from the side (eye levevl with stone) should the top look almost flat or should it have proportions that you can see? I am wondering if the crown is too small (don't have Sarin on it). It is a .65 princess.

They are ususally less than 10% crown height and below 5% is not rare.

Congratulations! It sounds like you got a winner.

In a perfect world, I guess most diamond cut finatics woould prefer steeper angels and a smaller table ( the flat part on top)on princess cut diamonds.
A rough diamond cut with shallow angles will yeild a larger polished stone.
So, as Garry mentioned- shallow angels are common- but as you already know, this type of stone can have great life and sparkle.
Enjoy- is the diamond set, and can we see a picture?

There are a couple of diamonds with steep crowns (even the cert says it is way steep!) & small-ish table on DBL that must have been cut to match my dreams

But... there is a setting for everything, IMO. Those flat face princesses look great from the side in a tension or gipsy ring - all that tiny pavilion gets lost near the setting and the table seems to continue the surface of the ring. On the other hand, a 'reversed pyramid' with > 80% table hung upside down between four prongs ? Well... I don't know.

These flats may not be cut to sparkle the most, but that does not mean thy are all pale either. It is not impossible to get good brilliance out of 'something' with basically no pavilion, I would think. To each his own, as usual...
