Please verify my understanding of what the IdealScope shows. If the view is all red or pink, then there is no light leaking in from the bottom of the stone. White spots or areas indicates light leaking into the bottom of the stone. However, that does not tell you about light leaking out of the diamond. Scintilation is light that leaks out the sides and flashes its brillaince to people who are not looking almost straight at the stone. Is the black areas indication of light leaking out to create scintilation? If so, am I right in that you are also looking for a nice symmetrical pattern of black spots or shapes in the red pattern (i.e. perhaps the "arrows" of H & A diamonds). I also understand that a stone cut too deep or too shallow can have some ring effects, but for now I want to clear up what the red, white, and black gets you. I do understand that I am looking for good symmetry in whatever patterns exist in a stone. |
