Looking at the following stones. Will be for a platinum setting. Sorry for the length...

1. 0.95 carats, signature ideal, H, VS1, depth 68%/table 69%, symmetry VG, excellent polish, medium girdle. 5.74x5.50x3.74 mm, crown height 8.9%, l/w ratio 1.04
$4,843

2. 1.11 carats, signature ideal, H, VS1, depth 68.8%/table 68%, symmetry very good, excellent polish, girdle thin to thick. 5.80x5.76x3.96 mm, crown height 9.7%, l/w ratio 1.01
$6200

3. 1.12, VG, G, VS2, depth 72.4%/ table 72%, symmetry good, girdle thin to sl thick, strong blue fluorescense, 6.06x5.57x4.03 mm, l/w 1.09
$5421

4. 1.21, VG, VS1, depth 71.1% / table 74%, symmetry VG, polish VG, girdle thin to very thick, 6.07x5.85x4.16 mm
$5761

- How do I try to compare the signature ideals to other cuts? Do I just use table / girdle?
- Looking at blue nile by word of mouth good experience - why are there so few blue nile diamonds on pricescope?
- Do I really need to get it appraised if it's certified and comes from a reputable place. If so, does anyone know any appraisers in the Boston area?

Thanks a bundle

You can also try to search for diamonds with total depth and table for 1A - 2A AGA grade, have you seen Fancy Shaped Diamonds.

Here are some examples for 1A class Table and Total depth:

Carat Col Clar Dpt Tab Lab Gdl Cul Sym Pol Flr Measurements L/W Price
0.92 G VS1 70.4% 64% GIA gd gd no 5.25-5.11-3.88 1.03 $3837
1.05 H VS2 73.7% 67% GIA md-stk no gd vg no 5.61*5.48*4.04 1.02 $4158
1.05 G VS2 70.8% 65% GIA t-m no gd ex no 5.82-5.66-4.01 1.03 $4492
1.2 H VS1 71.8% 68% GIA m no gd gd no 6.01x5.88x4.22 1.02 $4692
1.05 G VS1 66.9% 66% GIA t-stk no gd gd mb 5.62*6.09*3.76 1.08 $4848
1.09 G VS1 68.6% 62% GIA gd gd no 6.10-5.61-3.85 1.09 $5022

Once you located the diamonds, the best would be to compare them yourself to chose which one you like the most.

Yes we’ve heard about positive experience with Blue Nile too. Blue Nile doesn't list many stones comparing to other internet companies: "only" about 4,000 diamonds (compare with over 80,000 diamonds listed in the web).

Good question. Usually it is a good practice to get an independent appraisal. You can use it for insurance. Would you do an inspection when you buy a house? However if you feel comfortable without additional verification, it is completely up to you.

Re: Boston area. Martin Haske, Adamas Gemological Laboratory

Happy hunting :)

Thanks for the info. Sorry, did I mention that these were princess cuts

I can't seem to get the search to work right for Princesses if I search by quality - get an error of "no search results"...

I realised this because you wrote about signature collection, L/W ratio, and table, depth for princess shape. :)

What criteria did you use?

Looks like if you search from color H-D instead of D-H it doesn't work.
Works great now!

So, coming to the end of my saga. About to buy the following from www.goodoldgold.com. Jonathan's been very helpful, as has this forum.
Princess, 1.04 VS1, G. Table 63, depth 74, Crown 12%. You can see it at http://www.goodoldgold.com/princess_1_04ct_g_vs1_superb.htm.

Let me know if you have any thoughts...
