Hi all. Im a newbie to the forum. I knew more than I ever dreamed about Diamonds when I got my wifes wedding ring 3+ years ago, but am now out of touch. She lost her .25ct earrings that I got her many years ago. Luckily I have insurance on them (ok they are pretty cheap to replace but so was the insurance). Anyway, I was thinking of upgrading to .5ct Can anyone point me to a good dealer in the Portland Oregon area, or what is a good (trustworthy) internet site? I am slightly time constrained as her birthday is Sunday (would be nice but not required on-time gift). What kind of price should I look for. I was thinking in the F, VS?, nice cut range. Found www.tradeshop.com in a quick search. Thanks! Jeremy |

Try Winkjones.com or GoodOldGold.com.

Thanks, I will check it out. BTW, what is the recommendations for earing quality stones? These will be .5ct total. Am I wasting money getting colorless high quality stones (VS-VVS)??? Will nobody every notice the difference with G-SI1? Thats what her old ones were (although 1/2 the size). He her wedding ring I got a nice 1ct F VVS2 - still probably overkill but thats me. Thanks! Jeremy

First, NiceIce is in Oregon. That may be good for you if you want to take a trip to check them out. They are a well respected vendor here on pricescope. Most would say for earrings you can get away with lower color and clarity. I'm sure being in the near colorless range (G-J) would not be a problem at all. Clarity, I'd still want "eye-clean", so you could probably go down to SI1-2 and find that and if your lucky maybe even I1 (rare, but pricescopers have done it!). I personally got my girlfriend G VS (I was looking for H-I, SI, but my vendor got what he could find and I took them), but with ideal proportions. I'll tell you, they are the most spectacular things I've ever seen!. Everyone says they look bigger than 25 pts each (because of the ideal cut). I think the amount of fire in earrings is reduced because light availability around the ears opposed to a ring, but they look so white and shiny...it is truly unreal! I purchased mine from good old gold. Here is a link to the thread with pics. I think they are comparable to what your looking for!
