Check with findmyjewler.com to see if they have a jeweler in that area that they have approved. They look for quality, price, education, etc. Not always the best one, but at least would be better than a blind try. They use your zip code for a search. If not there are a host of people on this site waiting to help.

I don't know how close to the DC area Bowie is, but you may want to give DirtCheap Diamonds a call. They are in the DC area and if you call ahead and talk to them about what you are looking for they could probably get a few diamonds in for you to inspect. Even if they aren't really close, it may be worth the drive. I found their prices to be very good and great service too. They could get their hands on just about anything you want.
