I'd like to place a 2.5 carat radiant or Ascher cut diamond into one of Vera Wang's designs. Her bands however are only approximately 1 to 1.5 mm wide. Is that safe to do?

Settings are well made, although you can find similar settings for much less $$$$$$$$ and you can have it made to your specs. Twice as wide, taller, square shank, colored diamonds. Most cities have some very good goldsmiths. Not all of them are expensive.

Vera Wang makes lovely designs and the width of the shank doesn't really affect the saftey of the setting. This is an artistic question, not one of security. If you want a wider shank and she doesn't manufacturer something that meets your requirements, you will need to either go with a custom design or with a different maker. I don't believe Ms. Wang will do custom work but one of her dealers should be able to tell you. As Yowah points out, there are quite a few designers out there that should be able to help you for similar or lower prices than Ms. Wang's work and many of them are extremely skilled.
