First, thank you to everyone who has been so incredibly helpful in educating me and helping me get the most out my first diamond purchase. Some people say that knowing too much takes the romance out of the purchase, but this diamond will mean so much more BECAUSE of all of the time and effort that has gone into finding the "right" stone. With that said, I am down to TWO stones. The first has all of the information, including a Sarin report, IS, etc. and can ve viewed at the following link: http://www.goodoldgold.com/princess_1_17ct_d_vs1.htm For non-link people, here are the basics: 1.17ct, D, VS1 VG (pol), VG (sym), No Flouressence 1.04:1 66% table, 75% depth, M-STK Girdle (2.4%), 12.8% crown The light return looks very good with a lot of sparkle, maybe a little less fire, but overall excellent light return. $6,650 The second stone has not been tested yet (it should be up in a day or so, and I will post the link as soon as possible). Until the link is ready, the following will need to suffice... 1.05ct, F, VVS2 EX (pol), EX (sym), No Flouressence 1.01:1 69% table, 69.2% depth, M-STK Girdle, TBD crown $7,082 The similarity between the table and depth of the second one concern me, but I was intrigued by the EX/EX, as although it is not an indication of cut, usually a cutter who takes the time and effort to achieve EX/EX produces a very good, possibly excellent cut (and I am assuming the crown will be appropriate for the diamond). But, for the money (esp. considering the size of the diamonds), based on what I have seen so far, I really like the 1.17ct stone. But, maybe I am missing something -- I am not an expert at interpreting the Sarin, IS, etc. reports. Any thoughts or advice before I make the big purchase??? Thanks! |

I would not assume anything about the crown of the second...you never know! I can't choose one without that info

Unless the tests come back with some killer scores on that second pc, I'd take the first one. It looks like a solid stone, well within ideal ranges for a princess, and from what I understand the polish & symmetry of a stone aren't a big, important factor--ie, you're not likely to see the difference between good and excellent on any given stone. I doubt you'll see much difference between the two in terms of quality--so like I said, unless that second idealscope comes back solid black, you'll probably get more bang for your buck with the GOG stone.

MoreMoreMore, I didn't mean to imply that I was assuming that the Crown would be in any range, but I will not know until tomorrow and, I was basically saying that, if that the crown height is acceptable, I think that, on paper so far, the diamond merits consideration. Jay

Actually, I had GOG do a diamond seach for me based on a laundry list of specifications (all thanks to my new-found PS knowledge), and, out of the 20 or so stones, these are the two that I was most interested in. So, these were (pun intended) diamonds in the rough that we literally went out and "discovered". I couldn't have done it without all of you, and of course, without the wonderful staff at GOG. Those guys rock (again, pun intended)! jay

I did misunderstand. If the crown and pavillion angles are cool, then I bet it's an awesome stone!
