After looking at more than 50 stones, ranging form D E F to Light fancy, fancy yellow I finally made a purchase... but I think I made a mistake.. Can someone please help me.. I bought a Natural fancy light yellow, with even distribution, no Flor. the clarity is VVS2 polish Very good symetry Good. The diamond is a 2.6 carat squarish radiant cut. 68 deep. 66 table.. it measures 7.75 X 7.19 X 4.90 mm. Not too big in appearence. The diamonds color is NOT a deep deep yellow. It is lighter BUT the diamond is VERY brilliant and Fiery.. More so than MANY/ALL of the white stones, ranging in the E, F range were so it caught my eye. I paid $15000 for the diamond... Now I see at some reputable on line diamond exchanged, light fancys in the 3 to 3.5 range with MUCH larger dimensions coming in at the same price. Its not too late... I dont have the dciamond in hand and can make an adjustment. Can someone please help guide me so I am not taken advantage of... I can really use your help chris M

In a free market like those for gemstones, it's Buyer Beware - Caveat Emptor! If you bought it from the Net, perhaps there's some escape clause that allows you not to go on with the deal if you haven't paid. If so, take advantage of it. If not, offer to exchange it for something else. Many jewellers would allow this, especially if they prefer to see customers going away in a happy mood, hopefully becoming repeat customers. If there is still time to return, do so without regret. You can always buy it again later on. Gemstones and jewelry do not have very high turnover rates, unless their prices are way too low because the market is not very established yet, even for rare ones such as ammolites and pezzottaites. Even if there is no explicit escape clause, ask to return it. If need, give your reason. Give a good reason - For example, $15,000 could get you 1,000 pieces of the rare ammolite at wholesale price and you want to use that money for such an alternative since you can sell them for $15,000,000 in four years' time. At least, there is a chance you might be offered a good 'adjustment' deal. If you do nothing: Well, I believe things end up with people who are fated to have them. Thunder Storm Maker (Grand Master), creating havoc in the Heavens when active. Otherwise just a lazy Cave Keeper, sleeping on a huge pile of tiny glittery rocks, small dazzling stones and big sparkling pebbles.

yowahking Cut Rock Total Posts: 317 Last Post: 11/13/2004 Member Since: 8/16/2004	This is exactly why you need to find a good appraiser to help you decide what is a good deal and what is not. Fancy colors do not translate on paper as easily as white stones. A "G" color will look pretty similar in color to other "G" colors. The other variables will make differences. Fancy colored diamonds are very dependent on how they look. There is not yet a very good system from GIA to describe the color. Light, Medium, Intense, are not specific enough just like describing "pretty good" for describing someone's looks. A new sytstem is coming but the focus right now is the new cutting system that will be released in HK in 2 weeks. Rumor is that fancy color grades are next on the list. If you got a great deal, good for you. If you paid too much, there are lots more on the market. We have sold more colored diamonds in the last 2 years than in the 10 years before that. Also, you may find listings of fancy light yellows at Dirt Cheap Diamonds (no pictures, but light yellow rad 3.53cts, VVS2 down THIS page) and Icestore (not exactly the best prices)and HERE. Just my 0.2, if you are still looking for a good reason to change the diamond you already hold and obviously like. I just didnt know if the price was completely unreasonable, seeeing other much larger stones with similar traits for the same $$$... Fancy's are amazing diamonds... they are very difficult to figure out. I will have someone look it over before putting down the balance and taking the ring... Thanks for your time chris M

IMHO the 2.6 VVS2 Fancy light yellow / GIA report you described seems to be priced "fairly". I use the following guide to help me decide about fancy "eye clean" yellow Diamonds. 3.5ct Fancy light yellow = $20,000 3.5ct Fancy yellow = $32,000 3.5ct Fancy Intense yellow = $45,000 3.5ct Fancy vivid yellow= $80,000 I am sure that some people are going to disagree with these numbers, but it is what I use.
