Hello All, as of my last post on this site, I was fairly set on what I wanted. Since then my boyfriend and I have decided to go with a smaller stone which has me rethinking the setting. I bumped into this one yesterday, but I'm concerned with the height for everyday wear I would love some opinions. Tension setting # TR-056 in White Gold http://www.gelinandabaci.com Sorry, I really tried to post a picture. When I put this setting on my finger I felt like it was the one. Even with my love of antiques. |

I have a G&A tension ring (style 007). I've had it since early June. I LOVE IT. I sits relatively low to my finger, at least much lower than many catherdal settings I tried on. So far as Cranky Dave's comment, we all have very different beliefs about tension rings and their saftey and security and reliability. I will speak only for my ring. I have dropped it several times on hard surfaces. I have worn it swimming in a cholorinated pool, the ocean and a lake. I am left handed and very often knock it against things in the daily course of work. And I have clapped long and hard with a ring on my right ring finger at many concerts, sporting events and just while being silly and stupid with friends.. and this baby is solid as a rock (all puns intended). Now for the other important stuff.. Do I have a really good insurace policy on it? Yup. Do I look at it closely each week to see if there are any changes in anything? Of course. Will I take it in for it's 6 month check up. Absolutely. Am I worried about it getting too loose or too tight and not being able to resize it. Not at all, G&A does it for a resonable fee. Simply put, go with what you feel comfortable with. Buy it from a renowned and respected maker of tension settings with a good reputation on Pricescope and enjoy the hell out your new ring.

Thank you for your advice, here is a picture of the setting. I'm also left handed, hence my concern for the height of the setting and security of the stone. How much would insurance run on a 1.25 RB ?

They have a good reputation. Personally, though, I'd opt for a lower tension setting, so you'd be less likely to knock it against things.

if you or your family have a house, you can put it towards that. it should be somewhat lesser expensive compared to buying insurance just for the stone. i'm thinking per year it'll cost about $50-100 more if it's with a house insurance
