I am planning to buy an engagement ring within the next week and am looking for a genuine antique (no reproductions please) with an OEC diamond of roughly 3 - 3.5 carats. The ring should be platinum and will likely be edwardian. I am interested in a design similar to the one shown in the pictures below. If you have such a ring for sale or are aware of any such ring, please let me know. Thanks!

And the last one. If you are aware of anything close in an authentic antique piece with an eye-clean 3+ carat stone with decent color (I or better?), please let me know. Thanks again!

it's drop dead gorgeous. there is a VERY similar antique piece on www.estatediamondjewelry.com. i (don't remember the carat size though.) i cannot guarantee you that that particular setting is not a reproduction, because some of their settings are (stones are antique though) but if you call up they can tell you. the store is in the NYC diamond district.

i have seen other similar pieces elsewhere but can't remember on exactly which antique site. try faycullen.com, antiqueengagementrings.com and doyledoyle.com to start. (i now remember that doyle and doyle had a similar setting to that one when i was in there two weeks ago but it was not set with a stone.) also look for a recent (3-4 days ago) post under my name with "putting an APB out for this setting" as the title. alexah posted a loooong list of antique sites. id check those out.

Try faycullen.com, I love antiques they have a nice selection and some believeable reproduction settings. If you're in NY "Once Upon a Time Antiques" (East 11th.) John (owner) has great taste. Good Luck!

You may also want to contact Dave Atlas (avatar: Oldminer). He may be able to recommend antique jewelers who may be able to help you where you are.

Good luck! And do post pictures when you get it!!

Getting a higher colour may be a bit of an issue, as you've found out. A /lot/ of the whiter/clearer stuff has been recut, so a nice OEC/OMC that big and that white would be quite a find, from what I understand. Just ask fire&ice -- she looked for a long time for hers, and she does that for a living!

Still, if you can find a peachy M-O, those look stunning... I'd keep my mind open to that, as they're easier to find.

Reena - Thanks for the pointer. I spoke with them and unfortunately that setting is a reproduction they make themselves. The recipient of the ring has made clear that above all else she really wants a genuine antique so unfortunately that is deal breaker for me.

Ladybird - I have looked at Fay Cullen. They have a piece that is similar but unfortunately it is P color and that is too tinted for my tastes. I sent messages to them asking if they have anything else that might be closer to what I am wanting and never heard anything back, which I assumed meant they didn't.

Chialea - You are absolutely right that most of the best pieces were recut. That definitely makes my job harder. But color on a diamond is one of the most noticable elements of the stone and I can't imagine just settling for an easy diamond any more than I would have for a girl. I don't want to be stupid about it. It's not like I am insisting on F or better. And if a gorgeous J color came along, I wouldn't rule it out. But color is important and I know I can do better than M/N/O and I am willing to pay the premium to get what I really want.

Thanks to everyone for your advise and support. If anyone is aware of any other options, please let me know.
