Hi, everyone! I've been checking out this website for some time now, and I absolutely love it! It has been so helpful, and the members are so great. I'm absolutely addicted to Pricescope! ![]() Anyways, time for my first post... I've been speaking with Mark at Engagement Rings Direct about having my e-ring custom made. He gave me a great price, but I'm worried about 1) having my ring custom made, and 2) being all the way over in Washington, while the ring would be made in New York. Has anyone had a ring custom made through Mark? I guess the whole idea of having my diamond sent away and not being there for the whole process scares me! I'd love to hear of anyone's out of state experience dealing with Mark. Any comments or advice would be so appreciated! Thank you!

Hi CB (mind if i call you CB for simplicity's sake? ),I'm not out of state, but I did just buy my e-ring stone through Mark yesterday so I thought I'd reply to your post. As you can probably tell by speaking to him, Mark's a really good, honest guy, and I'm sure he'll give you a great deal on a stone. I too considered getting a custom setting made through Mark, so I actually went and met with his setting people in NYC. (It was easy for me because I work right around the corner.) From what I saw, their work looked very nice. Also, Mark has mentioned to me that he works with in conjunction with those setting people to do pieces for Nieman Marcus, so I would imagine that they do good quality work. The prices were fairly reasonable, too. (In the end I decided to use another jeweler for the setting, but that's only because I already had my heart set on some of his designs.) Alexah would be a good person to talk to though (I'm sure she'll chime in soon!) because I believe she had mark do her e-ring setting and wedding band, and is also doing the setting for her new right-hand ring through him as well! ![]() Basically though, being that you're in another state and can't come meet with the setting people face to face, I would just be sure to ask mark how the whole thing would work. i.e., are they going to provide you with drawings and/or a mold of the setting before they start work? Also it probably depends on how complicated what you want is. But good luck and let me know if I can be of any further help.

I actually just spoke with Mark on the phone and he just seems like a really great guy. I already have my center stone and am looking to have a bezel/pave ring custom made (think Ritani and Michael B). Anyways, they'd need my stone of course to build the ring, so I'd have to ship it. That's one aspect that scares me... my mother gave me this stone and I don't know what I'd do if it got lost in the mail! So I have another question for anyone that has bought a ring over the Internet or out of state... what do you do when something happens to the ring (if a side stone falls out, etc.)? If I were to purchase from a local jeweler, I would have to have my ring checked every 6 months and if anything happened I could easily go in and get it repaired. What would you do if you purchased over the Internet and something happened to the ring? Thanks again! Chelle P.S. Reena~ CB is fine ![]() And Nan, thanks for that link! Alexah's ring is beautiful! _____________________________ |

okay, that's SO funny, that was the EXACT setting i was considering when i went in to see mark's setting people--a micropave bezel setting just like the michael b line. very strange coincidence. what shape is your stone? anyway i saw their micropave bezel work and it was very nice. i'd be happy to answer any questions. with respect to the second part of your question, i think that you could still get a ring made elsewhere checked and/or repaired by your local jeweler.

Really?!? Wow, that is a coincidence! I really didn't think I liked bezel settings, but then I tried on a Ritani Endless Love ring and just about cried! They are so pretty. I thought a bezel might hide the center stone instead of showing it off, but it really didn't. Oh, and I have a round center stone (a little over a carat) that was passed down to me. Yeah, so if I decide to have it done, you might just have to sneak a peek at my ring every once in awhile and keep me updated, since you work around the corner!

is there a reason that you don't want to go through a local jeweler for your setting?

Well, I've been to a lot of different local custom jewelers, but they've been very pricey, and I found that Mark's price quote is by far the best. It would be nice to have the ring done locally, though. I'd probably have more peace of mind. I guess I feel like, with Engagement Rings Direct, I'll be saving some money and getting a great ring (hopefully) at the same time. I know you mentioned that you've actually seen his micropave work and it looked good. That makes me feel so much better! I'm still undecided of what I should do, but I'll keep you updated! If anybody wants to pitch in their .02, please do! I'd love to hear some more advice and/or experiences people have had! Much thanks, Chelle _____________________________ |
