Hello everyone, I'm thinking of resetting my princess cut diamond engagement ring. Currently it's in a solitaire setting and I was thinking of putting two round diamonds on the side. Has anyone ever seen this or have thoughts on it? I can't find a picture and have never seen one in person. Any thoughts would be appreciated! Thanks!

I have been looking for some time now, (I'm indecisive, lol) but I can say that I've never seen a Princess with Round Brilliants on the sided. I believe it's a question of semetry. If you want something rounded consider Pears instead, they taper away from the center stone creating a nice balance. I hope this helps.

amalley, I think that it all depends on the size of the rounds as compared to the princess cut. If you are thinking of rounds that are less than half as small as the princess cut then I think that it may look best if the rounds were bezel set into the solitaire band and very smooth so as to just add a little flash and glitz to the ring. If the side diamonds are larger, then you would probably want them set higher and more prominently. Were you going to set these in a new mounting or use your existing mounting and modify it ? If you wanted an entirely new mounting, then you could come up with all kinds of novel and attractive settings that could be custom made to fit your vision. What's your style ? Big and bold, plain and direct, filigree or antique style, there are so many ways to go. If you had a close idea of what you were looking for I'll bet that you'd get at least a few pictures or links posted for some ideas. |

Hi, Although it is an unusual combo, I have seen it done. I've attached a couple mockups to help you envision the look. ![]() Brian Knox |

It's different, but pretty.

Have you tried the website www.adiamondisforever.com? It has a great feature under 'design your own ring - engagement rings' where you can play with center stone and sidestones shapes and sizes. Fun! Just don't do the three-stone option, which doesn't let you mix and match diffent shapes. Hope that helps! edited to add: pears are my absolute fave for sidestones and i think they woulkd look fab with your princess.
