Has anyone encountered problems with invisible setting wedding bands? She has fallen in love with a band that has 2 rows of princess diamonds set in an invisible setting, but I am being discouraged to get the band because supposedly they tend to have problems. Such as the diamonds falling out and being difficult then to both find a diamond in that matches and repairing it. Help.

I've heard only bad things about those settings as well. Has she seen the shared prong settings? They are gorgeous!!!

I've heard nothing but horror stories about diamonds falling out of invisible settings. Discourage her, if you can.

My wedding set has 2.38 carats of channel set princess stones. I haven't had any problems with the rings at all.

Here is my 3 ct E-F, VS1-2 invisible set princess ring...it's 18k and I have never had a problem--it's even been sized twice.

I think a lot has to do with the workmanship, and how tough you are on the ring. I don't wear this ring everyday and I am not one of those people who wears her jewelry to do "everytning." I think these settings are great but you want to have it checked periodically. It is true--if one goes in this type of thing, they ALL go.

However, I also know that if there ever was a probem, my jeweler would address it with probably no cost to me. He is very much a stand-up guy...If they just all fell out for no reason, he'd take care of it. If I slammed it in a car door, I'd probably have to meet him half way.

I had her talk to other jewlers re:invisible setting, even had her try on a 1 row princess enternity band, showed her the prong setting, and channel setting, but she loves the 2 rows princess. We are inquiring about custom making the pc in Philadelphia. Any recommendations for custom jewelers?

Invisible settings, when done correctly can be beautiful and durable, and expected to last a normal lifetime for rings with trim diamonds of 8-20 years in gold and longer in platinum.

When done poorly especially in low end jewelry ,invisible settings are prone to failure and impossible to repair economically.

Don't rule them out, but be sure the jeweler will stand behind the product.

If they won't guarantee it, ask if they will offer a tradein towards another ring.
