This Leon Mege setting is described on his website as "micro-melee". Is anyone familiar with what that means? Is it like pave but with slightly larger diamonds? Thanks in advance.

reena- at the mall (!) today I saw a setting with your name all over it. I was kicking myself for not having my camera! It looked like the pic you just posted, set with a large EC. It was gorgeous -very very fine bezel and band, micro pave, beautifully delicate. I know nothing about the store (Hyde Park Jewelers) and can't find this setting on their website, but it was beautiful. They were closing or I would have tried to get more info

Micro mellee is stones less than one point usually 1/2 pointers, very popular in pave settings done in China, Thailand, India, and lately Sri Lanka. US jewelers usually don't want to mess with that size stones. When done well will nice quality melle, it can look very nice. Hyde Park is a pretty high end mall store. One of their lines is Chad Allison which is made by one of my long time friends, I drug my feet deciding on the line and Hyde Park stepped in to our city and bought the rights to the whole PHX area for that line. Snooze you loose. I don't know much about whether you will be able to price match anything with them or not.

---------------- micromelee = tiny diamonds (the stones to be set) micropave = what is done with them ![]() Ana "The greatest experts are only as good as the sum total of what they have seen." [Souren Melikian] |

melee are small diamonds. micro= even smaller. pave' is generall bead style setting. one might think of "paved with diamonds" as a translation. I suppose pave' could mean many small diamonds hammer set, in close proximity to one another, too. It would not be the usual situation. David S. Atlas |

--------------- No, they're not different techniques. As Dave said, melee are tiny diamonds. Pave is a setting technique. So pave is a technique but melee are just the stones themselves.

right, that's what i mean. i didn't realize that one referred to the techinique and the other to the size stone.

Reena, are you providing the diamonds to be set in the pave? I am looking into having a custom ring made and not sure where to start and if it is even worth my while.

hi: the jeweler who is making the ring is providing the stones for the pave, which i think is pretty common. what type of setting are you thinking about specifically? ive looked around a lot and am happy to help if i can.
