Dear Experts, I bought my first diamond in my life today, and planning to propose to my girl friend. I read on the internet about the AGS0 diamond and I finally got one. However, it didn't score very good on the HCA (2.3) and I am a bit depressed. I looked at the diamond in person, however, I can't really tell due the the lighting in the store. I can see the hearts and arrows, but I didn't see it through a ideal scope so I can't determine the leakage. Can you give me some comments? Would you recommend me to keep it? How's the price? The specs are as follows: Cost : US $8180 Color : G Clarity : VS1 Carat : 1.117 Dimensions : 6.70 x 6.74 x 4.11 Table : 57% crown angle : 35.0 pavilion depth: : 41 Total Depth : 61.1% Girdle : 0.7% - 1.2% Polish/Symmetry : Ideal/Ideal Thanks, thanks, thanks ![]() Alex |

if your eyes like it then keep it, even if it's on the deep side...

Impossible to give a valid opinion on the overall look without seeing the diamond, however, the depth of the diamond is fine. Be sure the diamond is clean , a tiny fingerprint can greatly reduce the brilliance and sparkle. Sounds a little like buyers remorse, which is very normal. Reads like a beautiful diamond. ---------------- The depth is "fine", but the crown-pav combo is not the best (ask the HCA). If you pay a premium for an "ideal" cut, then ask for the best cut. If you didn't pay a premium, then this diamond is a great buy. But if your eyes like it, then keep it! Stephan |

Hi Alex, Have you done a search here on PS for similar diamonds and specs? That's the best way to compare prices. Personally... I love the color and the size, and the VS-1 is a great clarity. If you have seen the stone in person and observed it in different lighting conditions, and you love it, then I think you should by all means feel quite comfortable in keeping it. I thought Brian's post was very encouraging. I know we all can get a little hung up on having a great HCA score... but 2.3 is not a BAD score!!! In fact it has been questioned before if the naked eye can even discern a difference in diamonds w/ scores between say a 1.6 and a 2, or a 1.9 and a 2.3... etc. The HCA just isn't meant to be THAT precise of a tool. I was going to run it through the AGA DIY cut grader, but I didn't have all the numbers. Here's the link if you'd like to do that: http://www.gemappraisers.com/ All in all, I think it sounds like it could be quite a beauty. Trust your eyes. And keep us posted! ![]() Lynn And THAT'S my story and I'm sticking to it! |

Thanks for all of your replies. I tried the http://www.gemappraisers.com/,and the result is more promising than HCA Cut: Round Weight: 1.117 carats Table % 57 Grade: 1A Crown Angle 35 Grade: 1B Crown Height % 15 Grade: 1A Pavilion Depth % 43.2 Grade: 1A Girdle Thickness Thin to Medium Grade: 1A Total Depth % 61.2 Grade: 1A And I download the trial version of the DiamondCalc, but too bad it doesn't allow me to do a round diamond. Does anyone has that tool and can help me to run an analysis? I will be much appreciated. Anyway, I think it is not a very great buy because the price seems a bit too high. But I think my gf will like it.

---------------- alex if you want a better hca score the pavil angle must be less than 41'. it is always harder to find a "mind clean" stone than a eye clean stone. |
