Hey Everyone,

I stopped by Ganem Jewelers in Phoenix, Az to check out some precision set settings in person. I got a price quote from GOG a couple of weeks ago about a single row pave setting that precision set has along with the matching wedding band. The settings looks wonderful in person and I checked the price tag on the setting. Ganem was slightly more expensive ($175) than GOG. Ganem seems to have a good reputation in Phoenix and I was treated well over there. Do you think I could Ganem about GOG's price quote and see if they would match the price?

Before you do ask, though, you might consider how much it is worth to you to work with a local jeweler with a good reputation who treats you well.

You can always ask to match price. There are a few things to consider. One, an online place is having it set in INdia or China for 26cents per hour labor. I know because I go there and see these buyers there. I also know Ganem (George) and while their prices can be beat, they will stand behind what they do if a diamond falls out and it happens with pave. If you send a ring back to online stores, they often only have some crappy guy on the side try to fix it because it is not going back to India. There are lots of good pave setters in PHX. There are also lots who will pave set because they need the money, but should be making curly fries at Jack in the Box.

Valdo650,

It’s often kind of a complicated deal that includes things like warranties, upgrade privileges, financing and other elements that aren’t immediately obvious. There’s a lot to be said for having a jeweler with whom you have established a relationship and where you can then feel comfortable shopping in the future. This is true both online and at storefronts. Part of what you’re shopping for are these intangible elements. GOG is a first rate store and it’s almost certain that you’ll be happy if you end up buying from them. They have legions of happy customers. The same is true of Ganem. The nature of the offer is slightly different and it’s up to you decide if you prefer the services being offered by Ganem or GOG. If the price is only a few % different, I wouldn’t let the money be the final deciding issue but, in direct answer to your question, yes it is possible that they will match the prices. Ask ‘em.

O.K. this is yet another post bashing on-line vendors. Where are you getting your information? It simply is not true.

Scott,

That is a very unfair generalization about online stores.
Take a look at the testimonials from the masses here who have purchased through online stores.

Your statement is pretty offensive - most online stores are NOT bad. Same thing is true of local B&Ms.

I have my local jeweler - whom I adore. But for the big stuff, I love that I have a ton of different places to find what I want. I am certainly not one to settle. ;-)

We consumers just like to have many options - and I personally would not hesitate in a second to purchase a diamond through any of the PScope vendors.

That is a pretty harsh generalization to make about online stores. The folks here on pricescope are top notch and they are "online stores".

Actually, I don't understand what is Scott talking about. What India and China? I mean... I don't understand what he is trying to say. You mean online vendors go to India and China to buy their diamonds? If they can find good diamonds there, why not? I don't get his point.

Maybe the angst against Online Vendors is more a reflection of him than of the vendors here......
might want to check out the following links:

No Website (at all!)

No Listing in the Phonebook (or the Yellowpages)

Fortunately though, it seems if you are persistant enough, you can find them & see they have a good record.

Sorry for being a little off topic, but...

How are the curly fries at Jack in the Box ?

We don't have that franchise in Minneapolis.

valdo650,

$175 doesn't seem like a lot to sacrifice to earn your business. So I would assume that they would do that for you and invest the chance of making you a future customer. If so, than that's a wise investment. So just as wonka27 said "the worse they can say is no". However, don't rule out online vendors that are advertised right here on pricescope. Just as kittenkat said, there are many testimonials regarding positive purchasing experiences with each of us. Ultimately, the most important thing is for you to buy from the company that meets your over all needs and makes you happy. Good luck....

I stand corrected on the website.... they might want to get that listed with Google & Yahoo (which is free).... tough to get business from the net your site doesn't appear in web searches.

I must say their design gallery has some nice eye candy (though another thread should be started for this...)
