My husband is wondering (and me) how it works when you take a diamond to get appraised.

What happens if the diamond is different than the cert. or description the jeweler sold you? If the appraiser says it's an I instead of a G, for instance, how do I return the diamond to the original seller? Can't the seller tell me
that I "switched" the diamond because he sold me a "g"???
How do you handle this??

Generally a diamojndcomes with careful physical measurements such as diameter, depth, and weight. If you are picking up the diamond from a store, have them verify this for you before you leave with the diamond. Then, no problem.

If you get a diamond from an Internet vendor it too will have paperwork with these physical measurements. It is the first thing that an appraiser will verify. If there is a problem, have the appraiser call the vendor for you.

I have yet to have a situation where the vendor thought a diamond sent in error was "switched" by a private individual. There is usually a much more satisfactory solution that such an accusation.

Do not let time pass when you get the diamond. Have it promptly verified.

One of the reasons we have diamonds ent directly to us rather than to their buyers is to protect all parites from having a problem like you are afraid of. If I get a diamond that is not 'right", the dealer can rely that there was a mistake and not a switch... It is just part of why an appraiser can be useful to you.
