What type of insurance should I get for a diamond ring? And should I use my homeowners insurance? I need the specs and exactly what to tell the insurance agent. Thanks Kavala14

I have Chubb insurance on my rings. For the appraised value. chubb.com for an agent. I wouldn't rely on homeowners. I know too many folks who got screwed by that. Most homeowners policies will not pay more than 1K total.

kavala14, Most major insurance companies offer some form of jewelry insurance and this subject has been discussed quite a bit on the forum. Do a search here to look for discussion of insurance. It is usually possible to get a policy in conjunction with your existing homeowners policy called a 'rider' or you can go with one of the companies that specializes in this. Your insurance agent should be able to explain what they are offering from that company. Chubb, Jewelers Mutual and Firemans Fund all offer specialty policies that are worth considering.
