Hi everyone, I've narrowed down my e-ring search to two stones. They're both pretty close as far as GIA #s go. Will one perform better than the other? How will the cloud present in the 1.04ct affect the light performance? THANKS!

OMG they are nearly identical...this one is a coin toss for sure! The clous will have no impact. Have you seen them both?

No, they're from Ashford. I really wish I could see them in person. What's a newbie to do??

Make sure you get Sarin reports, pics of the diamonds, and ideal scope images. It's the only way we can tell you which stone has the most potential!

Ashford doesn't provide that info. I was planning on getting it appraised after purchase, and obtaining that info at that point. Is there anything else I can do, other than use their 30-day money back guarantee?

Those two diamonds read like a super apir of stones. Other than not knowing the crown height, one could assume they are identical for most purposes. I suggest you ask about the crown height/ If one falls below 9%, then I suggest you look at the one with 10% or more crown height. If they both are 9% or less, then you need to see both of them.
Even at that, the one I'd guess is cut better may not look better than the other. I'd bet they both look excellent. Somebody is working on making nicer cuts, finally.

---------------- Who konws? Different stores sell priness cuts selected for more or lest srict limits of their proportions and brilliance. There always is a leap of faith from numbers (such as this crown height) and actual light return... which you may or may not be willing to take if brilliance (is this what you mean by "performance" ?) is important. The "signature" princess diamonds at Dirt Cheap Diamonds and Blue nile come with the crown height measure in place. So does the occasional princess on the "Expert Selection" list at Whiteflash, and those presented by Good Old Gold, NiceIce and Superbcert... And there must be another couple' dozen shops I do not know of and do the same. Some of the above also provide light return analysis of one kind or another, and the premium for selecting stones varies allot - so it ay be worth while to inspect such options I would think. What specs do you have in mind for this diamond? ![]() You asked about that cloud... but VS1 inclusions would be far too small to see, let alone impede brilliance! If you do want inclusions that cast a shadow, than it is I1 and below, not VS1 and above. You may find cases when a VS2's inclusion was visible, but only a few VS2 s and diamond buyers will make such examples. Also, why not G ? Have you had a chance to compare some diamonds and see what these grades look like and mean? Of course, this is just a Q - I have no way to know what information and shopping experience you had... Not that finding a brilliant princess seems easy there are enough long posts on PS for evidence. But at any given time some show up, of course.Ana "The greatest experts are only as good as the sum total of what they have seen." [Souren Melikian] |
