Okay, I've found THE stone 1.23 marquise (1.93 length to width). It comes out a 1A on Dave Atlas' chart. The only drawback I can see is that it is a J COLOR. I am wondering if this will show a lot in this size stone or I will be mostly unaware of it. Whiteflash told me it is definitely a J color and shows a HINT of color (I spoke with the gemologist). I plan on getting a yellow gold or two-tone setting because it looks best on me -- my husband prefers platinum or white gold. So, will this stone be okay? Will it go in any color setting, too? |

not an expert, but if you ask around I think most will say your fine with the yellow gold. here's why I say that "Perhaps the most important factor to consider when selecting color is the type of setting you plan on using. If you plan on mounting the stone on a platinum or white gold setting, consider a diamond in the D-G range. Yellow gold will be much more forgiving to a less than colorless stone, but regardless of the setting, the diamond will start to appear yellow if the color grade is lower than about J." from this website i found on the web...I can't vouch for them...just found them on a search. http://www.diamondreview.com/tutor/4cs/tutor_4cs_color.shtml

My understanding is that fancy shapes tend to show more color than rounds, so that's one thing to keep in mind. I'd trust what WF told you, though perception of color is a very individual kind of thing... It sounds like a lovely stone (NOT that I know much of anything about marquises), I say take a look at it in person!

Color, from what we see around here, is a very eye sensitive thing. Some can really see the difference, others cannot. If you really like this stone maybe you could see if they'd send it out to a trusted jeweler or an independant appraiser for you to go in and look at. If that wouldn't work, you could always purchase it, and if not what your interested in, send it back. Look around locally. See if anyone has a similarly shape stone in your area with that color. That could help you judge what the color in a stone like that would look like. Good luck...let us know what you do :-)
