Hi all,

I've been shopping for settings for a while now, and since it turns out that all of the "designer" settings I like are quite (ok, exorbitantly) expensive, I'm thinking that the best thing to do is find a great jeweler who I can trust to make a setting to my exact specifications. Has anyone used a jewler (either in the NYC area, or else a great online vendor) that they would recommend for this purpose?

I want a very fine micropave setting, perhaps with a rather intricate band design, so I'm really concerned about quality of workmanship.

PS: I'm going out to GOG later this month and may purchase my stone there. Has anyone had GOG make them a custom setting?

Hi Reena,

Awhile back there was a poster named cushionsearcher who purchased her cushion stone and custom setting from GOG. I'm not sure how to post a link, but search in Show Me the Ring for posts from "cushionsearcher" and you'll see her story. She posted a detailed account of her experiences with GOG as well as pics of her completed ring. I too am on the verge of getting a cushion cut e-ring, and I'll be curious to see what your experience with GOG will be like! Good luck!

Emily

Of the online vendors I think Whiteflash does custom work.

I got a custom e-ring/wedding band made in NYC through Mark at EngagementRingsDirect.com but we also bought my center stone from him... everything turned out exactly as i had imagined
Mark is a terrific person to work with & i can't say enough good things about the experience we had with him...

Also, I'm currently getting a band made through the jewelry dept at Saks Fifth Ave - they do some luvly work but the prices might be a bit high...

Good luck Reena

Thanks everyone.

Alexa, does engagementringsdirect have a showroom, or do they see people by appointment only? Also, by any chance was the setting you had designed pave?

You can either call or e-mail Mark & yes, you'll have to make an appointment if you'd like to meet with him. He's got an office on a high floor in the general area of the diamond district. He's really a pleasure to deal with - no harsh sales tactics or anything like that.

You could send him a pic or try to describe what you're looking for & he'll be able to tell you if he can have it made & give you a price quote...

My setting was baguettes actually - here's the link if you're interested in seeing it....

Leon Mege is in NYC and could handle a request like this. You wouldn't do this to save money, but instead to get exactly what you want in a quality that is probably superior to most "designer" rings.

Gorgeous ring, Alexa. Thanks for the info.

Elmo: I have actually been giving some thought to using Leon Mege. His stuff is simply amazing. My only concern, however, was that having him do a custom piece for me would be even more expensive than simply purchasing the setting I wanted in the first place (a michael b pave setting that runs about $9600). I might be wrong, however, so maybe I'll give him a call once I get my stone.

Have you (or has anyone else) purchased a setting from him? I'd love an idea of how expensive his stuff is compared to the other settings I've been looking at.

Thanks!

Hi everyone!
I am new to the forum but... have been reading the posts for wuite some time now. I am soon to be engaged...I don't know when exactly...but I know very soon.  Anyway I have been searching for the perfect ring setting and love the michael b 3 sided pave ring...we went to a  jeweller who will custom make it for me... I will be going to look at the molding today but...lastnight my boyfriend went to see it and told me that he does not like the way the prongs were set they did not resemble the setting I want they are more in a U shape and I want a V shape so the diamond looks like it's floating  ...Does anyone know what this is called? ....I will not be getting the diamond prongs because I feel it may take away from my diamond.  I was wondering if anyone would have any close up pictures of the ring setting or anyone actually this ring if they can show me so that I can explain to the jeweller tonight.
Thank you soo much!!
Dommie

I would contact griffin from the board and get a recomendation for someone local.
My local guy does awesome work but doesnt do orders over the net/phone.
There is someone else that has some awesome work up on his site that posts here.
The vicidin im on for my leg is kicking in and I cant think of the exact spelling of his name/nick but his first name is David maybe someone else can help.

Out of the big PS vendors I think WF has the better custom shop but there prices are on the high side.
