http://www.whiteflash.com/diamonds/Compare_Diamonds.aspx?idnos=630791,714356,499853,714358 Is there anything I or anyone else would see by going with a VS2 diamond over the SI1? I like the F/SI1 not to mention it is about $1K cheaper. And if I went to a mall jeweler, what might I expect to pay for a comparble diamond?

I would go with the "F" SI1... However, make sure that it is eye clean. I have an SI1 and it's spectacular....

I'd ask Brian at Whiteflash to talk to you about these different options and see what he says. If the F SI1 is eye clean, I can see NO reason not to save the $. The #s look great, the IS image is great, can't find a thing wrong with it. If it's not eye clean, you'll have to decide how much a visible inclusion will bother you (or the intended wearer). As for what a comparable stone would cost at a mall jeweler... I doubt a mall jeweler would even carry a comparable quality cut. I've found that small independent jewelry stores are anywhere from a few hundred to a few thousand more than internet prices. They simply cannot compete with the low overhead of internet businesses. However, if you have a small local jeweler you'd like to support, I'm entirely in favor of spending a little extra for the sake of helping my local businesses. But I'd never throw my money away on a mall store or big chain - the quality is simply not there. quaeritur |

i may get thrashed for this..but i have had thoughts of prefering an eye clean SI over a VS..the reason being..i like to see a "birthmark" of some sort on my stone..so i always know its mine.. weird? maybe..but i currently have a VS..and i cant find the inclusion! but its not that i want to see it when i look at it, but when studied, i just want to know its there. peace of mind maybe? who knows..
