Also, an ideal cut diamond will often look larger than a poorly cut diamond of the same carat weight. Non-ideal cuts are usually too deep or have very thick girdles, so the weight is where you cannot see it. Also, the extra sparkle of an ideal cut will make the stone look more lively all the way to the edge, which also makes it look bigger.
